Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 06/10/2015 - 6:47pmRecently, my friend Slats Grobnik told me about politics in a state where he had lived.
“We had a Republican governor who won his first term by promising things limited-government conservatives wanted, especially no new or increased taxes. In that term he abandoned all those promises and took up with the Dems and RINOs – that’s Republicans in Name Only.

"In 1984, Nevada Senator Paul Laxalt gave me the opportunity of a lifetime to serve as a legislative intern in his office in Washington, D.C. Coming from humble beginnings, the experience changed my life and charted me on a path of public service. It never occurred to me then that I would someday have an opportunity to be a candidate for the United States Senate.
The 78th Session — An Autopsy
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 06/08/2015 - 6:03pmThe elections in November 2014 were a great surprise to many and shock to some. The people swept all Democrats out of the state-wide offices, reversed the majorities in both houses of the Legislature, and by a 4-to-1 margin defeated the "margin" tax. We the Republican base were looking forward to restoring long-overdue sanity at the State level.
Column: Details of The New Nevada Commerce Tax
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/08/2015 - 1:38pmWell, as Nevadans, we are collectively now stuck with a new tax. It's name? Commerce Tax. (A Clever disguise for the recently defeated Gross Margin Tax?) Up until a few days ago, it was believed that this wouldn't pass. I have yet to see any real media explanation of the details, so, after reading the text of the bill enough times (SB483), while my head is still spinning, I will attempt to give you a little more of the picture.

Pat Hickey, Political Pundit
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 06/07/2015 - 2:36pm"Republicans own the education issue in Nevada right now. Let's cash in on that ownership!"
-Pat Hickey on Ralston Live, June 3, 2015
Pat Hickey always begins his blog entries with a quote that resonates with the theme, and I've learned from the master. I've become one of Pat's fans, both because he talks more like a human being than a politician (e.g. calling KOH's Dan Mason's Show "right wing" before pretending to correct himself), and because he has an extremely wry sense of humor.

Nevada Legislature: Who’s the RINO now?
Submitted by admin on Fri, 06/05/2015 - 4:20pmThe 2015 session of the Nevada Legislature has ended, and it produced enough drama and comedy to keep us political junkies fully entertained for 120 glorious days.
But the comedy continues as the lunatic fringe of the Republican Party are busy casting aspersions against the very popular Gov. Brian Sandoval and the majority of the Republicans in the Legislature who approved a $1.1 billion tax increase. The favorite friendly-fire insult of the far right is to call them RINOs, short for Republican In Name Only.

Challenges to Anyone Who Supported the Record Tax Hike
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 06/03/2015 - 8:52amSunday, Assemblyman Erv Nelson and others broke their key election promises to fight huge destructive tax hikes and make state government operate reasonably. Nelson used glittering generalities and platitudes to explain that he didn’t really understand matters very well back when he made his promises, even though he’s an experienced lawyer. But now he understands and so has changed his mind.
If he thinks he now understands matters correctly, then he must logically also believe that folks who voted for him based on his promises don’t understand.
