Girls of the Month

Hitting the halfway mark of the shortened work week, Wednesday events around town include Northern Nevada Development Authority's The Business Edge monthly meeting, "State of the Counties" at Casino Fandango, a Capital City Arts Initiative reception for the "Photo Finished 2020" exhibition featuring the works of 9 Carson High School students, a Bee City USA Carson City meeting at the community center, a women's Seeking Safety workshop, and more.

Winterfest is here, and the theme, Carson's Got Game, is more than just a nice motto, it is a series of multiple physical board games, playground games, and video games. According to CHS physical education teacher and Leadership adviser Ann Britt, “the class color teachers will be playing a game of life-size Hungry Hippo during the assembly Jan. 17, and we will be doing a door decorating competition with judging taking place Jan. 21; the top three winners will receive a gift card to Starbucks.”

Carson City Soroptimist will present the Live Your Dream Award, five scholarships, and recognize four Girls of the Month during its January program meeting. The meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. It will be Wednesday, Jan. 22, noon to 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

Heading into the middle of the work week, Wednesday, May 22, there's no short supply of places to go and things to do around Carson City. Sure you may want to pull out your parkas or sweaters for the day. All the more reason to take in those rays of sunshine when the clouds break. A walk through the capitol grounds is always a blessing and treat, no matter the weather or your politics. So enjoy. Here's what's ahead:

Carson City Soroptimist will present grant awards to two women, and honor the achievements of local high school seniors, on Wednesday, May 22, noon to 1 p.m. at Glen Eagles. The meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required.

Good day Carson City and welcome to the middle of the work week. Today is Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019. We're looking at mostly sunny skies ahead today and for the remainder of the week, with highs in the low 50s today and warming into the mid 50s through Sunday.

Carson City Soroptimist will honor five Girls of the Month during its Program Meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23, noon until 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

This meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. There is no charge to attend, however a plated lunch with choice of entrees, selected in advance, is available for $16. Carson City Soroptimist will honor local high school Girls of the Month, culminating with presentation of the Girl of the Year Scholarship during its Program Meeting, Wednesday, May 23, from noon until 1 p.m. at Glen Eagles Restaurant.

Join Soroptimist International of Carson City for Our Scholarship and Girl of the Month Award Luncheon on Wednesday, May 24 at the Brewery Arts Center.

The public is invited to attend Soroptimist International of Carson City's monthly program meeting on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from noon to 1:00pm at Glen Eagles Restaurant, 3700 N Carson Street, Carson City.
