Carson City Soroptimist to honor five at January meeting, accepting applications until April 15
Carson City Soroptimist will honor five Girls of the Month during its Program Meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 23, noon until 1 p.m., at Glen Eagles Restaurant.
This meeting is open to the public, with prior reservations required. There is no charge to attend, however a plated lunch with choice of entrees, selected in advance, is available for $16. To reserve a seat, and select an entree, email sicarsoncity@gmail.com or leave a message at 775-297-4890. Reservations deadline is Monday, Jan. 21 before 5 p.m.
Girls of the Month are Carson City high school seniors selected by the Foundations Committee of Soroptimist International of Carson City (SICC) for exemplary academic achievement, participation in school activities, and community service. Many of these girls have overcome adversity to become leaders in their schools and our community.
For example, September Girl of the Month, Jasmyn Riediger, helped raise $55,000 for fellow Carson High School students affected by a tragic car accident. October's Aadra Reed volunteers for food drives and community clean ups. November's Rylee Santos is business-minded with intentions to one day run for political office. December's Jill Beglin is a four time Varsity Letter recipient.
And January's Nura Tung studies philosophy and volunteers with Food for Thought. In addition to recognition at the Club's meeting, each girl joins decades of girls so honored and will have their names added to the plaques located at Carson High School.
With four more months yet to award this school year, the Carson City Soroptimist Foundations Committee is currently accepting applications for the second semester, until April 15, 2019. Applicants chosen, along with the first semester honorees, will be eligible for the SICC Girl of the Year $1000 scholarship, to be awarded at the June 26 Program Meeting. Interested high school senior girls should contact the Counselors Office at her Carson City school for an application and more information.
