Friends of the Carson City Library will be hosting a book sale this Saturday, Dec. 5 at Browsers Corner Book Store located at 711 E Washington St. from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Virginia City will kick off its Candy Cane Express and Train of Lights on Friday with all day train rides. Small Business Saturday will begin in downtown Carson City with COVID-19 restrictions put in place. Combined with pool tournaments at Bulldog Billiards and live music at Living the Good Life, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Nevada Author, Sandie La Nae will be selling her popular books at the Flying Pig Flea Market for your gift giving ideas.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the second annual Evening with Divas in Carson City, a Día de Muertos celebration at the Nevada State Museum, Nevada Artists Association’s 40th anniversary celebration, paranormal ghost investigations in Virginia City, a pie baking contest in Gardnerville and much more!

Come on down to the market and meet some great friendly vendors with gifts, antiques, collectibles, art, jewelry and so much more. Shop in comfort for your holiday gift giving by local artists. Excitement abounds as teachers and students have been holding multiple events throughout Carson City this holiday season, everything from Christmas tree sales with CHS teacher and Adviser Ty McMillen’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes to the American Sign Language students of teacher Mary Anne Weaver putting on their Sign Me a Song Christmas production at the high school.

The Carson City Chamber continues to search for new items for their artisan store to launch in time for holiday gift giving. This year, the Chamber partnered with Silver State Industries to introduce the first in several series of collector’s puzzles featuring iconic Carson City scenes.

Pirates on the Plaza, held Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Bob McFadden Plaza in downtown Carson City, was a first-year success thanks to so many involved. With all of the gifts given, The Golden Sock Campaign and Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, received over $1200.

Dog Town Canine Rescue will host a Holiday Boutique Booth this weekend at the Carson Mall. The booth will be there Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 9-10 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Here’s another take on gift giving. Give a living Christmas tree in a pot that your gift receiver can plant in their yard after Christmas. If you give a tree, include these tips. While indoors, check the moisture content of the root ball daily. Water it when the top two inches of soil feels dry.

I’m not trying to rush you, but the holidays season approaches. As such, the holiday craft fairs, bazaars, and bake sales have arrived. You may as well start looking at that gift list to see who would enjoy something one-of-a-kind and locally crafted. If not for gift giving, these fairs are an excellent way to find fun ways to decorate your home. Other than that, the weekend is kind of quiet, but you'll want take a look at the list and see what catches your fancy.

The Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County is seeking gifts for boys and girls ages 13 to 17 during their annual holiday toy drive.

Even with 82 locations around Carson City and Douglas County, including 27 of the Salvation Army’s ubiquitous red-kettle bell-ringers, Lt. Mark Cyr of the Salvation Army said teenagers are the most often overlooked population during holiday gift giving.

Local authors, Sandie La Nae and Mary Randall will be book signing and selling their books at Comma Coffee, at the Carson City Wine Walk on Saturday, Dec. 6. Mary Randall writes children's adventure books, and Sandie is an author of Historic-Paranormal writings. (Sandie's books are supported by the Nevada Historical Society).
