CARSON CITY — The Desert Gardeners announced the winner of a beautiful garden-themed quilt raffled during a fundraiser to benefit The Greenhouse Project during its May meeting on Thursday, May 16.

National Honor Society President Eleanor Sturm made her opening remarks at the annual NHS induction ceremony Sept. 17 in the CHS Big Gym. Guest Speaker, Greater Nevada Credit Union Vice President Jenny Casselman then addressed the new NHS members and discussed what it means to be a part of such a fantastic organization and the responsibilities of being an NHS member.

Signups underway for Carson City area 4-H Science of Gardening summer club

CARSON CITY — Signups are underway for the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension's new 4-H club for children ages 9-12. Kids who enroll will be able to be involved in the science of gardening and will learn what it takes to grow their own tomatoes and more.

Join Muscle Powered and our Parks and Recreation Department at the Silver Saddle Ranch for a presentation and trash mob. Kids will love the Carnival at Bordewich Elementary School, and it helps raise funds for a local Cub Scout Pack. Mark Twain Elementary is hosting their annual Color Run at Mills Park, just make sure to wear a white shirt.

The Carson City Historical Society, along with the Mark Twain Garden Club, the Desert Gardeners and the Sierra Desert Garden Club, is holding a Garden Festival on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Sierra Desert Garden Club gives FISH $500 for Carson City veterans housing complex landscaping

The Sierra Desert Garden Club presented Jim Peckham of Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, with a check for $500. The club selected FISH to receive the restricted award to go toward a tree or landscaping at the new 39-unit Richard's Crossing housing complex on Jeanell Drive in Carson City that are reserved for homeless military veterans. The remainder of the units are open to non-veterans.

Carson City Arbor Day celebration Saturday features treasure hunt, fun run/walk

The Carson City Shade Tree Council and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will be celebrating Arbor Day this Saturday, April 25th at Long Ranch Park. The ceremony which will begin at 10 a.m. will celebrate Carson City’s 21st year recognition by the National Arbor Day Foundation, out of Nebraska City, Nebraska as a “Tree City USA.”

The Nevada Division of Forestry will be presenting the award to Carson City on behalf of the Foundation. Mayor Bob Crowell will read the Carson City Arbor Day proclamation and a state official will read the Nevada Arbor Day proclamation.

Carson City Historical Society Garden Tour with Capitol Tree Walk

Join us for the Carson City Historical Society's Annual Garden Tour, this year featuring a Tree Walk of our Capitol Grounds by Tom Henderson of Healthy Trees. Visit 10 private gardens, talk with their gardeners, and enjoy exclusive access to the new Greenhouse at Carson High School. At 4:30pm we'll "Put the garden tour to bed" with wine, refreshments, and a talk by Joanne Skelly. The day is complete with demonstrations by artists at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, and plants & starts from the Mark Twain Garden Club.
