Oh, this morning is going to hurt. Adjusting to Daylight Savings Time is always a little rough, and this Monday gets going one hour earlier than usual. The Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is on March 31, but don’t wait until the last moment for tickets. Grab them in the High School Office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Grab some friends and head to Carson Cigar Co. for Game Night: Cards Against Humanities, Apples to Apples, and Jenga are just a few of the offerings – it changes every week.

What’s this? A weekend with no snow in sight? That’s the best news I’ve heard in months. Welcome to the wrestlers and swimmers who are in town for their respective tournaments: you’ll find other fun things on this list to occupy your downtime. It’s a St. Patty’s celebration in Virginia City this weekend with the parade, Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest, and Ball Buster Saloon Crawl. Bragging rights are on the line at the Sixth Annual Thirsty Boy Homebrew Competition sponsored by Just Brew It. You’ll get a sneak peek at the soon-to-open Shoe Tree Brewery if you attend the award ceremony.

Our favorite red-headed orphan sings that ‘the sun’ll come out tomorrow.’ Luckily we don’t have to wait: for the sunshine or for the Wild Horse Children’s Theater’s production of Annie, Jr. You’ll find the musical at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall this weekend and next. Admission is free for the celebration of his exhibit, Beyond Nature’s Light. Head to Carson Cigar Company for a Sake Party with premium sake, raffle prizes, and something delicious to snack on.

I’m still looking for some springtime, and these next sunny few days might just do the trick. Take a break from the workweek with something fun. For classic movie lovers, you can catch ‘All About Eve’ at the Galaxy Theater. Who has two thumbs and is ready for spring? This girl. Monday starts off with some icy roads so please give yourself some extra time to travel. It’s going to be quite a blustery day, but hopefully we’ve seen the end of the wet stuff for a little while. Start the week off with some fun. You can swing dance the night away at El Charro’s, sing the workweek blues at the Fox Brewpub’s karaoke night, or help Sassafras welcome guitarist Ian Moore to the stage.

MONDAY:

This time next month our downtown will be in full bloom, but there’s plenty of cheer no matter what the season. The monthly Downtown Business Association’s monthly Wine Walk marches right along: rain or shine, wind or snow (or a combination of them all.) Grab your friends, a coat, and see what kind of fun blows your way.

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring. SATURDAY:

Back, by popular demand, David and Friends jazz combo will perform at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery, 449 W. King Street, Carson City, on Saturday, March 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. The live music is part of the Carson City Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, to be held that day from 1 to 5 p.m.

Carson City High School Career and Technology Education student Karsen Law will have his work displayed by the Nevada Museum of Art and the Holland Project Gallery, both in Reno, beginning March 1.

On Tuesday, March 7, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will present a talk by arts writer Chérie Louise Turner. Her illustrated talk, "From New York to Fallon: Abstract Art Today", is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 7pm at the Community Development building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor St, Carson City.

The sun is shining on Carson City and all sorts of fun is blooming. It’s a great day for the kids with the Kerak Shrine Circus in Reno, cookie decorating at Genoa Candy and Coffee, and a Father-Daughter Dance at Dayton High School. • Mayors Day at the Nevada State Legislature

CARSON CITY, Nevada – Las Vegas artist Christopher Tsouras, a grandson of Greek immigrants, has a longtime fascination with pre-classical Greek mythology.

That fascination, along with his deep interest in modern astronomy, are at the heart of Tsouras’ photography and mixed media exhibit that goes on display at the Nevada Arts Council’s LXS Gallery beginning Monday, Feb. 27.

The Nevada Artists Association is exhibiting it's annual Winter Show, now through March 31. Open 10am to 4pm, Tuesday through Sunday. All art is for sale. Admission is free.

• Opportunity Village Day at the Nevada State Legislature

Award-winning and published Carson City artist Kathleen Osborne Flanagan will kick off the first monthly Artist Reception and Exhibition at Carson City Art Gallery, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for clear skies, but there are rumors of snow flurries. Luckily there are indoor and outdoor activities, no matter what blows our way. At the top of the list for today is Winter, Wine, Spirits, and All That Jazz at the Brewery Arts Center. Their annual fundraiser is not to be missed.

Even if the weather doesn’t agree, there is a spring thaw in our midst. Carson City is picking up the pace, and there’s fun to be had all over. You’ll always find a great comedian at the Carson Nugget on Fridays: this week it’s funnyman Steve Bruner. Head to Sassafras for a fun time with Sacramento indy band, Poindexter. • Senior Issues at the Nevada State Legislature

We’ll wake up to sunshine, but some snow may be in the cards this afternoon. Please drive safe when it’s slick out. ‘Our Story, Inc.’ takes you on a tour of Black History in Northern Nevada in the foyer of the Legislature; they’ll be on hand at the Carson Library this evening for a special Black History Month Celebration. Get a jump on spring cleaning and lend a hand to the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.
