Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed on drug and trespassing charges

A 49-year-old Dayton man was arrested Friday in 1400 block of Medical Parkway on a felony drug charge and misdemeanor trespassing, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

A 52-year-old Sun Valley man was arrested early Sunday on felony drug charges following a traffic stop in which the suspect was driving the wrong way on I-580, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Thomas Higgins was arrested at 4:12 a.m. He faces felony charges of possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription and two charges of possession with intent to sell. He also faces misdemeanor charges of DUI and reckless driving.

Nighttime lane closures will be in place beginning Sunday on South Carson Street and U.S. 50 near Spooner junction for the Nevada Department of Transportation’s Carson City Freeway project, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Emergency crews called to crash in northbound lane of Carson City freeway

The Nevada Highway Patrol, Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to a multi-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on I-580 north of Carson City in the northbound lane at Lakeview.
The crash was reported to NHP at around 2 p.m. and no major injuries were reported but the northbound lane was moving extremely slow around the crash scene.

Emergency crews respond to accident in southbound lane of Carson City freeway at Fairview

UPDATE 5:39PM: Four vehicles were involved in the accident tonight in the southbound lane of I-580 near the Fairview exit. One person was being taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Carson City Fire Department, Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City sheriff's deputies have responded to an injury accident tonight in the southbound lane of I-580 near the Fairview exit. Expect traffic delays in the southbound lane.
At least three people are reportedly injured. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time. The accident was reported at around 5:20 p.m.

Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report through July 5

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 29 through July 5, 2015: Division Street will be closed between Sophia Street and William Street for sidewalk improvements as well as Sophia Street just west of Division Street.

Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day and detours will be in place. The JAC bus stop on Route 2A on Division Street just south of Sophia Street will be temporarily closed.

Carson City road report: Street closures downtown Friday and Saturday for events

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of June 22-28, 2015. Beginning Friday, the Battle Born 1864 “Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly” event, coupled with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office 12th Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, will force temporary road closures.

Carson Street will be closed between Robinson Street and Musser Street from 9 a.m. on Friday, June 26, through midnight Saturday, June 27. In addition, the following streets will be closed during the same time period.

— Spear Street between Carson Street and Curry Street.

Wrong-way driver involved in Washoe Valley fatal had history of reckless driving, DUI

A Carson City man involved in the early Sunday morning fatal head-on crash in Washoe Valley, who was driving the wrong way on the I-580 freeway with his lights out before plowing into a SUV killing a passenger, was convicted in June 2012 of reckless driving and obstruction and was arrested for DUI in 2007, court records show.

NDOT breaks ground on final leg of Carson City Freeway project

The Nevada Department of Transportation begins construction today on the $42 million final leg of the Carson City Freeway project.

Road crews will pave and open the last four miles of the freeway to traffic between Fairview Drive and the Spooner, Highway 50 junction in south Carson City, including construction of sound walls and drainage features. The project is expected to complete, opening the final segment of freeway to traffic, in 2017, according to NDOT. It is being constructed by contractors Road and Highway Builders.

Chamber of Commerce unveils local artist, St. Clair's metal sculpture

A local metal artist, Robbie St. Clair unveiled his six-foot metal sculpture of two mustangs rearing. The Carson City Chamber commissioned St. Clair to create the piece of uniquely Nevada art.

Continuing in the vein of placing public art in public places such as that placed along the I-580 corridor as part of the freeway construction, St. Clair’s mustang sculpture was unveiled and dedicated Saturday.
St. Clair began to pursue metal 10 years ago when he found himself wanting to create art that was tangible. He began to construct signs and started taking art classes.

I-580 southbound lanes reduced Tuesday near Washoe Valley for digital sign work

On Tuesday, April 28, southbound lanes of I-580 will be reduced for a Nevada Department of Transportation project to repair a digital freeway message sign.

Work will take place from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. During that time, southbound travel lanes will be reduced to one lane near the Bowers Mansion area, directly prior to the exit 50, Alternate 395/Bowers Mansion Road. Northbound lanes will not be impacted.

Carson City sheriff’s log: Officers make two unrelated felony warrant arrests

A 35-year-old transient, Richard Warren Mullens, was arrested Wednesday, 9:08 p.m. on a felony fugitive from justice warrant and three misdemeanor charges, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.

According to the arrest report, the supervising officer assigned to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team was advised of a man walking in the roadway near the southbound onramp of the Carson City I-580 Freeway at College Parkway. The officer responded and observed a man hitchhiking.

Emergency crews called to single vehicle accident on Carson City freeway

Carson City emergency crews responded to a single vehicle accident on the Carson City freeway this afternoon. The accident involved a single vehicle that crashed into the wall near the Arrowhead onramp of the Carson City I-580 freeway. It was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. The accident is in the southbound lane and traffic is being diverted.

Emergency were initially called to a second accident on the freeway but it turned out the accident was the same accident as the one on Arrowhead.

The Nevada Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.

Two accidents within minutes of each other on Carson City I-580 Freeway

Carson City fire and rescue and sheriff's deputies were called to two traffic accidents that happened within minutes of each other on the Carson City I-580 freeway. The first accident, reported at 1:10 p.m. is in the southbound lane near the College Parkway ramp.

Low bidder for $42M final leg of Carson City freeway project named, work begins in June

The Nevada Department of Transportation’s Carson City Freeway Project has reached an important milestone with the recent opening of construction contract bids for the project’s final leg.

Road and Highway Builders’ approximately $42 million bid was named as the apparent low bid for the project. Final bid approval and contract execution will take place in future weeks, with the contract pending ultimate approval at the state transportation board’s May 11 meeting.

Carson City Freeway highlights key role of federal transportation money

Nevada is facing a $26 billion shortfall in transportation funding during the next 20 years. Transportation planning, improvement, maintenance and transit agencies throughout the state are coming together to urge everyone to Stand Up 4 Transportation.
