Silver Dollar Car Classic this weekend in Carson City, Hot August Nights in Virginia City

Classic car enthusiasts from Carson City to Virginia City will rev up their engines this weekend for two annual events: The Silver Dollar Car Classic and the Virginia City kickoff to Hot August Nights.

Festivities in Carson City begin Friday at Max Casino, formerly Carson Station, with a street dance, show and shine beginning at 6 p.m. The car show then moves to Mills Park for the weekend.

Douglas County July 4 weekend sees 37 arrests, 3 rescued at Lake Tahoe

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports the 2015, 4th of July celebration in Douglas County went well. The celebratory crowds in the Stateline, Round Hill and Zephyr Cove areas of Lake Tahoe were large and with exception of a few altercations in the downtown casino core area, Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove Beach, the crowd was relatively well behaved.

Virginia City Nevada hosted an awesome Fourth of July Celebration. Parade, live music, and spectacular fireworks display. This is a long lived tradition that is loved by many locals and visitors alike.

What began as a July 4th shrouded in clouds and the threat of thunderstorms ended Saturday in glorious, patriotic fashion with a 27-minute fireworks display at Mills Park in Carson City.

The 23rd annual event hosted by RSVP and Carson City Toyota-Scion, was among the longest displays in recent memory, filled with assorted colors of white and blue, with all the rockets red glare.

Skies are clearing and storm watches have been lifted. It should be a great night for July 4 fireworks at Mills Park in Carson City.

RSVP is host of the 4th of July Celebration and Carnival in Mills Park, now in its 23rd year. Carson City Toyota-Scion has partnered with RSVP and Cumulus Media to provide a live radio remote on Magic 95.5 FM which is live and on-air now, that will lead up to a broadcast of patriotic music and simulcast to the fireworks display at dusk.

A summer like no other

The summer of 1776 must not have been much different from other summers gone and yet to come: Hot, muggy and miserable for those who had to work out in it. And in 1776 that included most people.

A 27-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested Friday on a felony DUI charge after a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday that injured a passenger, a South Lake Tahoe police sergeant said. Extra patrolling and DUI checkpoints are happening this July 4 weekend throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Happy birthday, America! Today we celebrate our independence, and what better way than with a carnival. You might as well stay at Mills Park all day, the fireworks display starts when it gets dark. Tune into Magic 95.5FM and you’ll hear the choreographed music to go along with the oohs and aaahs. Where ever you choose to watch fireworks, please be safe. Rain, shine, or fireworks, the wine walk goes on. It may be the Fourth of July, but there’s just no stopping the Downtown Business Association’s monthly Downtown Wine Walk. The festivities begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 4. Grab a wine glass, map, and hand stamp and you will have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins. Every first Saturday over thirty shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors to the crowds of merry-makers. DUI checkpoints, saturation patrols this July 4 holiday weekend

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office along with other law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada will be participating in Joining Forces through the rest of the month of July with the focus on impaired drivers and riders. Fire restrictions on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin begin Wednesday, July 1, 2015, and will remain in effect until the official end of fire season, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Campfires will be restricted to certain exempted recreation sites and other fire-related activities will be prohibited.

New York City got in on the festivities with its first ever fireworks display for the Lunar New Year; I've included a YouTube video, just in case fireworks really are lucky.

The Pizza Factory on Hwy 50 East is holding a fundraiser for Eagle Valley Middle School today. 20% of the day’s proceeds will benefit their Parent Teacher Organization.
