Carson City authorities look for origin of possible shots fired in neighborhood

Carson City authorities combed the areas of Fifth and Harbin Street early this morning after several calls came in reporting multiple gunshots fired.

At least six calls came into Carson City dispatch beginning at 1:38 a.m. from residents reporting several shots fired in their neighborhood. A search of the area began immediately and has, thus far, turned up nothing, reports Sgt. Brian Humphrey.

New Year's Eve Torchlight Parade and Fireworks at Mt. Rose

Start the New Year off right with an extended day at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe on Friday, Dec. 31. Enjoy a torchlight parade, food, drinks, fire pits, and an early fireworks show before continuing your festivities down the hill.

Carson City Harley-Davidson hosts four-day Street Vibrations party

Carson City Harley-Davidson will be a major venue for motorcyclists as Street Vibrations gets underway throughout Northern Nevada.

Carson City festivities begin today through Sunday, including a fireworks display on Friday night. Harley-Davision is located at 2900 Research Way. The four-day party will feature trick-riding demonstrations, stunts and performances, vendors, live music, food, drinks, a Budweiser Beer Garden and a promise that the good times will indeed roll in true Harley-Davidson fashion.

Burning Man's fiery salute to a different way of living

BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. — At about 9:45 Saturday night, the crowd was all expectation as fireworks began blazing around the base of the Burning Man figure, 40 feet tall, looming against the black sky over the Black Rock Playa and Black Rock City eight miles from Gerlach, Nev.

Labor Day weekend and fireworks at South Shore Lake Tahoe are a tradition, with plans tonight, Sunday, for a truly awesome pyrotechnic display. So if you're sitting down here in Carson City, drive on up Spooner or Kingsbury Grade early to catch some amazing eye candy.

Burning Man: No police state in Black Rock City

BLACK ROCK CITY, Nev. — Forget all those rumors about this year's Burning Man event being a police state.

It's the same gathering of free-wheeling Burners that have populated the Black Rock Desert near Gerlach for more than 10 years, with the Bureau of Land Management, Pershing and Washoe counties' sheriffs deputies helping keep the 48,195 Burners reasonably in line. Final attendance is expected to hit 50,000.

Ely, Nev. – The Nevada Northern Railway is not your usual traditional museum with stationary buildings, equipment and trains that may not even tie to the history of the area.

Carson City BLM office: Statewide public land fire restrictions begin July 16

With hot weather, dry lightening and drought conditions arriving this summer, conditions for explosive brush and forest fires across the Silver State has increased. Because of this, the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District Office has announced plans to begin statewide fire restrictions on public lands beginning Friday, July 16.

Holiday reminders: Drive safe, keep your cool and celebrate freedom

It may be second verse but basic common sense deserves reminding from time-to-time as we approach the holiday weekend.
Don't play with fireworks in the forest, in the trees or in the neighborhood. Don't drink and drive. Don't lose your cool. Hydrate. Stay away from any warm potato salad that has sat in the sun for more than two hours; relax and enjoy the scenery and people around you.

Four-day July 4th Celebration at Mills Park in Carson City

A must-attend event for the whole family is the RSVP Annual 4th of July Celebration in Mills Park, which runs July 1-4, with a fireworks show on Sunday night. Join in on the fun during this four-day carnival that features rides, arts, crafts, novelties, great food and drinks.
