Rowan Brothers return to Carson City's Cafe at Adele’s with acoustic roots show
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 09/18/2015 - 6:25amRowan Brothers return to Carson City Sept. 24, on the Veranda at Cafe at Adele’s in what is becoming something of an annual tradition. The music starts at 6 p.m.
Each year about this time, Lorin Rowan and Chris Rowan bring patrons an evening of music that includes both new and old original songs and an array of everything from rock and pop to Americana and bluegrass.
Well versed in many genres and presented accoustically with beautiful harmonies, an evening with The Rowans is always a delight.
“This is something we always look forward to,” Lorin said.
Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read, Sept. 27-Oct. 3, 2015

Carson City Library will host a “Virtual Read-Out” during Banned Books Week, bringing together our community in shared support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular.
Silver Rail 2015 railroad multimedia exhibition comes to Carson City

Volunteers needed, September training for Nevada State Museum

Volunteers make friends and meet people from around the world as they share the story of Nevada’s history and collections. Guides should be willing to volunteer at least a few hours per month to give tours for school-aged children and adults too.

Submitted by editor on Mon, 09/07/2015 - 9:06amHere is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 7-13, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Friday Sep. 11, Race Track Road will be closed between Bigelow Drive and Saddlehorn Road due to utility work. Saddlehorn Road will be open to local traffic only and there will be limited access during night hours. Detours will be signed.

There's a 5K Remembrance Run in Carson City, a rib cook-off in Sparks, a farm-to-fork festival culinary festival and fireworks at South Lake Tahoe, the Cantaloupe Festival in Fallon, the Comstock Community Rummage Sale in Silver City and the Great Civil War Days Camp at Virginia City.

- IHOP 5K Remembrance Run and Walk: free, informal, untimed five-kilometer run/walk is set to start in the parking lot at the Carson City IHOP: 3883 S. Carson St. at 7am and finish at the Nevada Guard's Office of the Adjutant General Complex: 2460 Fairview Dr. (7am-10am; Reflective running/walking gear is recommended and participants should follow the marked course; Civilian participants should arrange ride back to start line)

Lake Tahoe resort debuts new climbing wall, children's zip line for Labor Day weekend

Downtown Wine Walk a perfect farewell to summer

Grab a wine glass, map, and hand stamp at the Carson Nugget, Cactus Jack’s, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Touched by an Angel, or Bella Fiore. You have until 5 p.m. to hit as many stops as possible before the raffle begins. Every first Saturday over 30 shops, restaurants, businesses, and organizations stock up on wine and goodies and throw open their doors to the crowds of merry-makers. It's always a great reason to explore downtown.

Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.

Carson City Parks and Recreation's new mobile friendly software kicks in Sept. 4

Parks and Recreation uses ActiveNet for many of the daily functions such as pool memberships, class and sport league registrations, out-of-school time programs, and facility rentals.

Crews will continue re-striping pavement markings on roadways throughout the city Sunday through Thursday each night from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. There will be a moving traffic control at locations where the striping occurs, with minor delays expected.
Sunday, August 23: Things to do around Carson City

Don’t miss out on a trip to Virginia City via the Virginia and Truckee Steam Train: locals get a discount on Sundays when they book online. Ormsby Post Acute Care is hosting a classic car show for their residents, so if you have an automobile that fits the bill, please head on over. The Minden-Tahoe Airport is the home to Aviation Roundup Air Show this weekend. You won’t want to miss the USAF Thunderbird Flight Team. Also on some fierce wheels this Sunday are the Carson Victory Rollers. Our roller derby team is hosting a scrimmage and collecting donations of school supplies at the Community Center.

An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

Highway 89 motorists can expect delays during this weekend's Lake Tahoe Triathlon

The California Department of Transportation said the highway will not close during events but California Highway Patrol officers will be conducting traffic control at several locations along the courses, including several turnaround spots for the cyclists.
Friday lineup: Carson City Jazz festival features Count Basie tribute among 3 venues

The Music Festival began in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William "Count" Basie, Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984.
TOCCATA Presents 9/11 Memorial Concert Series September 16-22

The concert series commemorates the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy and features Verdi’s Requiem (selections) and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with Guest Artist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin.

Please keep an eye out for little ones at crosswalks, and just be prepared for more traffic in general. Learning a thing or two isn’t just for the K-12 crowd, though. Head over to the Brewery Arts Center tonight for a free presentation on the History of Motown by John Shipley. Tickets to tomorrow’s Music of Motown performance at the Community Center are still available. The show features a band led by Lloyd Williams, popularly known as the lead singer of Otis Day and the Knights from Animal House.
