Labor Day weekend is almost upon us, signaling the unofficial end of summer. It’s still nice outside, so enjoy an easy hike up Lakeview's Hobart Road with Muscle Powered. WNC students are treated to a back-to-school BBQ with a bounce house and rock climbing wall. Kids won’t want to miss Lego Club at the Carson City Library this afternoon. Guitarist Dave Leather entertains at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Head to Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or Living the Good Life for karaoke.

It's the last day of August. Scarves, sweaters, and pumpkin everything are just around the corner. Enjoy today with some country line dancing at Carson Lanes or the trivia pub quiz at Westside Pour House. Matt Theilen opens his photography exhibit at WNC today; the reception begins at 4:30 p.m. Head to Sparks today if you want to beat the weekend crowds at the Best in the West Rib Cook-off. Josh and Jenera of the Whitehats are holding an open mic jam at Firkin and Fox; bring your guitar, or just enjoy the music on the patio.

Where has the time gone? We are moments away from Labor Day weekend with its Best of the West Rib Cook-off, monthly Downtown Wine Walk, Fallon Cantaloupe Festival, and Virginia City’s Civil War Days. Enjoy a walk in the Ronald D. Wilson Memorial Park, just west of Emerson Drive. Canyon White, the award-winning singer-songwriter, can be found at her weekly gig at Living the Good Life joined by Keith Alan Barnett. Dance it up: swing at El Charro, country line dance at Carson Lanes, or square dancing in Genoa are on the table.

The Carson City Boxing Club invites you to watch local boxers display their boxing skills at the Wednesday Night Farmers Market in McFadden Plaza from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 7.

The kids deserve some fun for surviving their first week back at school, and Carson City delivers. The first annual Northern Nevada Family Fun Day takes over Mills Park with music, a kids zone, activities, food, raffles, and much more. Since the inception of the Third and Curry Streets Farmers Market nine years ago, organizer Linda Marrone has wanted customers to have the option to pay for produce through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps.

“Just like with anything else, we feel everyone deserves access to healthy fruits and vegetables,” Marrone said.

Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. Summer is in full blaze out there. Treat yourself to something cold at Dairy Queen; their Miracle Treat Day donates a dollar per Blizzard to the Miracle Children’s Hospitals. See what the talented kids of Strings in the Schools have been up to this summer at their free concert inside the Carson Mall. ‘Always Lost: A Meditation on War’ is an art exhibit from Western Nevada College that has travelled the country.
