On March 19, they’ll do it again, and you’re invited to join them as Special Olympics Nevada co-hosts the “Freezin’ for a Reason” Polar Plunge® 2011 at Zephyr Cove, South Lake Tahoe. The event is open to all and will include entertainment, a costume contest, prizes, and Special Olympics athletes, coaches, and volunteers who will share their experiences with the organization’s inspiring programs.
Sculptor Mischell Riley Donates Sculptures to Dayton School Garden

Riley, who is well known for work such as the 3-story high bronze lion at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, has donated two of her pieces to enhance the school’s garden landscape.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 01/30/2011 - 3:09pmThe highly touted English film "The King's Speech" has finally made its way to the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, in time the for the Academy Awards next month where it is a strong favorite to win an Oscar or two. It's nominated for 12 awards.
So it took its time to reach us, but the wait was worthwhile as this is clearly a superior historical drama with a fine cast.
Movie Review: 'Green Hornet' slightly funny but a weak stinger

The film now playing at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City is aimed at the lower levels of intelligence, but along the way offers some humor and an incredible chase-crash-shootout scene. So all is not lost when sitting in the Galaxy stadium seats.
Carson City ice rink extends operations through end of February

The extended season will continue through the end of February at the Arlington ice facility and pavilion, located at the Main Street parking lot across from the Carson Nugget, at the corner of Robinson and Curry streets in downtown Carson City. Sheriff announces Carson City arrest warrants now available online

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong today announced plans designed to enhance crime prevention efforts by making better use of its website, which means going public with those who have active warrants for their arrest.
State worker launches budget deficit plan, issues challenge to economists

In a news release issued on Tuesday, Kuhl said his plan not only will reduce the budget deficit but also help repair Nevada's economy at the same time. It is a pretty big claim, he admits, coming from an Accounting Assistant I, an entry level position.

A number of new or expanded events and initiatives have followed that pledge.

The Dayton toy drive received applications for over 650 kids this year and we were quite concerned that there would not be enough to go around. Fortunately a large, eager, group of volunteers came together who were quick to get down to business and get the donations and interest pouring in. It wasn’t long before businesses, as well as community organizations and individuals were giving.

Democratic legislators this year are again lining up bills that would outlaw texting while driving and, in some cases, ban hand-held phone use while driving.
They’re continuing efforts in the 2009 session from Sen. Shirley Breeden, D-Henderson, whose text-banning bill died in committee. She’s sponsoring a similar bill this year.

Fatal accident on Highway 50 near Dayton this morning
Submitted by editor on Thu, 12/30/2010 - 3:37pmA 26-year-old Las Vegas woman died this morning in an accident on Occidental Circle, four miles east of Dayton, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
The accident happened at around 9 a.m and involved two vehicles that collided, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. A preliminary crash investigation has revealed that a silver 2006 Dodge Neon was traveling west on the four-lane highway when the driver, 26-year-old Wendy Ann Geddie of Las Vegas, lost control of her vehicle.

Kressley bounded up and down the interior of Carson Mall at midday, with cameras in tow, interacting with shoppers and store employees in his high-energy, over-the-top style. He did quickie makeovers on some people, adding make-up, or working on their hair.

The Carson City performance will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. The Carson City concert features the 60-voice Carson High School Concert Choir, alumni and Carson soloists, and will be a benefit for the high school choir’s future tour presentations.

Sandoval also named Leo Drozdoff as director of Conservation and Natural Resources.
