Walmart in Carson City first in Nevada to host pop-up parking lot movie nights
Carson City has been included as part of a nationwide drive-in movie project hosted by Walmart and held in parking lots across the country.
According to its website, thewalmartdrivein.com, the pop-up event is touring the country and visiting 160 Walmart Supercenter locations, two of which will be in Carson City, the only Walmart listing for the state of Nevada.
The movie showings will be August 21-22. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are free, but must be requested in advance. Tickets will not be available at the gate. No late entry is allowed, according to the website. At 1:30 p.m. the Carson City Walmart store at 3200 Market St., confirmed the showings would be held in the parking lot there.
According to the website, the August 21 movie will be "Spy Kids" and the August 22 movie will be "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."
Ticket and movie information will be made available later Wednesday afternoon, according to the website. Go here for the website and to sign up.
The website notes that an FM radio, such as a car radio, is required for audio. The showings are designed as a no-alcohol family event, designed for as many people as there are safety belts inside the vehicle. Walmart will require masks for those outside of their vehicles.
To ensure everyone's safety, guests will remain in their vehicles and parking spaces will be socially distanced.
The showings will be ADA accessible with Walmart requesting advance notice.
Carson City has also featured weekly movie nights this summer at the Brewery Arts Center. The films have been held Wednesdays and Thursdays and have been sold out in advance.
