CARSON CITY — Getting a handle on the threats and opportunities that climate change is bringing to Western Nevada is vital to our community. Citizens’ Climate Education, GreenACT NV, Sierra Nevada Forums and Western Nevada College joined to bring together climate change experts and the public on June 27 to discuss climate change.

CARSON CITY — The Carson Nugget is pleased to announce that we will be opening a new bar on the main casino floor called the Lucky 7 Bar. The Lucky 7 Bar will be a full service vodka themed slot bar with specialty vodka drinks, draft beer, and a margarita machine. There will be 24 seats including a lounge, and 14 new bar-top slot machines.

We are hosting a job fair on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 2 to 5 p.m. to fill beverage positions as well as other positions casino-wide. All levels of experience are invited to attend the event which takes place in the Events Center on the 2nd floor in Room B of the casino on N. Carson Street.

The 2019 Nevada State fair brought flair and excitement to Mills Park in Carson City on Friday.

Various rides, games, booths and concession stands filled the green belt for parents and kids of all ages to enjoy.

Fire season is upon us, and while the high temperatures may have come a little late this year, the wet winter and cool temperatures also created a perfect growing situation for fast acting fuels such as cheat grass.

Last year, our community watched with sadness and horror at the Camp Fire and Butte Fire that destroyed our western neighbor communities in California. Those fires, it has now been revealed, were caused by PG&E power lines combined with quick acting, dry fuels.

The question we've wondered is "can this tragedy happen here?" Especially after last fire season, with a number of local fires being related in some way to NV Energy power lines.

Boomers’ Legacy to Their Children and Income Inequality

In my last column I raised the sorry legacy my generation, the Boomers, are leaving our children and grandchildren.

I outlined the main problems, especially the increasing embrace over the last 150 years of statist liberalism, progressivism and now even socialism – or, in general, the slide away from our essential founding values, social institutions, practices and policies to coercive collectivism. Another problem area has been the embrace of certain exotic goals and their derivative ideologies as being central to our politics instead of the special interests they are.

Senator Square: Carson High School, Empire students share Carson River experience

Editor’s note: The following was written by Carson High School biology teacher Megan Schuler.
Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.
