Nevada’s minimum wage and daily overtime rates will not increase in 2017

CARSON CITY — The Office of the Labor Commissioner has released the annual bulletins for Nevada’s minimum wage and daily overtime requirements that will take effect July 1, 2017. The rates for the upcoming year will remain unchanged from last year.

Nevada’s unemployment falls below 5 percent in February

Nevada’s unemployment rate fell to 4.9 percent in February, the first time it has been below 5 percent since November 2007, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. The jobless rate ticked down one-tenth of a percentage point from January, from 5 percent.

Job seekers, employers turn out for Carson City Job Fair

About 65 vendors greeted job seekers Friday afternoon at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium during the first of two annual job fairs hosted and organized by Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS).

Only this year, Western Nevada College collaborated with CCHHS to put on the job fair that is known to attract hundreds of job seekers.

A second job fair typically takes place in the fall at the same location.

Nevada’s weekly wages during the third quarter of 2016 averaged $950, a gain of 10.2 percent from the previous year when weekly wages were $862, according to figures released Tuesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
