'Stop The Bleed' is new creed at Sierra Lutheran High School

Recently, the faculty and staff of the Christian college prep high school in Carson City became the first schoolwide staff in Douglas County to take part in the national bleed kit training being promoted by The National Stop the Bleed Campaign.
Carson City, Douglas County firefighters face off in friendly competition to raise money for stair climb

Instead, the delays are being caused by local residents slowing to give what they can to the firefighters raising money for “Climbing for a Cure,” a rigorous nation-wide stair climb in Seattle, which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Carson City, East Fork Firefighters to participate in 'Stairclimb' fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Wed, 01/08/2020 - 3:50pmThe Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.
Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.
Carson City firefighters knock down blaze at Adele's restaurant
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/28/2019 - 9:55amUPDATE 7:18AM: Carson City Fire Department knocked down a fire at Cafe at Adele's early Thursday morning. The fire caused damage to a storage room located in the back of the restaurant. No one was at the restaurant at the time and there were no injuries, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause is under investigation.

A fire has been reported at Cafe at Adele's on North Carson Street. The fire was reported at 5:19 a.m. by a security guard working for another company who passed by the restaurant and saw smoke. Firefighters are on the scene.
The fire was in the rear of the building, and chef/owner Charlie Abowd said it appears to have started in the laundry storage area. The building was built in 1864, and the restaurant has been in the Abowd family for 41 years.
Hot air balloons Sunday morning in Carson City celebrate firefighter's retirement

Carson City emergency crews respond to structure fire on Sandy Circle

Smokey haze around Carson from lightning-caused fires
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Fri, 07/29/2016 - 10:20amUPDATE 4:15PM: The Sierra Interagency Dispatch Center (SFIDC) in Minden reports the Rock Fire in the Red Rock area north of Reno is now 50 percent contained 1,500 acres.
The voluntary evacuation orders for about 50 residents in the area has been lifted, and those residents are being allowed to return to their homes.
No injuries are reported with this fire.

Multiple fires calls south of Carson City in Douglas County

Two fires have been reported above Jacks Valley, one above Autumn Hills, one above Job’s Peak Ranch and one near Fay Luther Canyon. The fires are going to be monitored through the night and will be addressed during the daylight hours.
No structures are in danger at this time, said Sgt. Pat Brooks of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Fire Burning Near Highway 395 and Stephanie Way in Douglas County

The fire is 95 percent contained at this time and hands are working to mop up this incident. Estimated time remaining on this fire is unknown at this time.

UPDATE: 5:15PM: The East Fork Fire District has been working the active fire and has stopped its forward progression. Mop up activities are now underway, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks. No structures were damaged or in the path of the fire. The fire burned an estimated 3 to 4 acres.
Heartsafe Community approaches save another life at East Fork
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 02/24/2015 - 7:10pmDuring summer of 2014, a gentleman was jogging on Windmill Road in Fish Springs when he suffered sudden cardiac arrest. The gentlemen, who had no previous history of heart problems, collapsed in view of a bicyclist. The bicyclist was a nurse and immediately went to the jogger and provided CPR while flagging down two passing gentlemen who called 9-1-1.
By the time 9-1-1 was called, the three bystanders were cycling through CPR to pump blood through the jogger’s body until additional help could arrive to try to restart the heart.
Hazmat called to Minden warehouse for leaking acid

This incident has been determined to not be of environmental concern. No injuries were reported during this incident. The property will be turned over to the property manager and a contracted hazardous material clean-up crew at approximately 5 pm tonight.

Douglas County requests State of Emergency for cumulative flash flooding

The cumulative series of floods has now exceeded the county’s resources, and the declaration will allow for help with repairing public infrastructure such as County Maintained roads, culverts, and drainage.
East Fork Fire District Celebrates Promotion of Six to Firefighter/Paramedic

The six firefighters attended paramedic school through REMSA/UNR in groups of two while still working as firefighters with East Fork over the last three years.
All six of the firefighters: Jeff Cates, Matt Smith, Roby Safford, Clayton Peterson, Steve Koontz and Zac Pedersen graduated with a GPA of 3.6 or greater from the year-long program.
Wildfire off of Mica Drive near Hobo Hot Springs extinguished

It was a 10-foot by 20-foot fire. A Carson Now reader said it was put out by a homeowner. Sierra Front reports they had help from East Fork Fire District.

The Carson City Fire Department has been called to assist in a wildfire reported burning in Douglas County off of Mica Drive near Hobo Hot Springs. According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch, smoke was seen at 7:25 p.m. Thursday in the area of Hobo Hot Springs.
