Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

Lake Tahoe writing festival launches playwright competition

Entries are open now for the second annual Lake Tahoe WordWave One-Act Play Competition. “WordWave, A Festival of Story at Lake Tahoe,” will return Oct. 21-23 to the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Winners of the play competition receive a $500 cash prize and the chance to see their work directed and produced as a staged reading on the historic Boathouse Theatre stage.

April events lined up at Fort Churchill State Historic Park

Fort Churchill State Historic Park is offering a variety of ranger-led programs during the month of April to highlight the area’s rich history and abundant natural resources.

Built in 1861 to provide protection for early settlers, Fort Churchill was once an active U.S. Army fort. it was abandoned nine years later. Today the ruins are preserved in a state of arrested decay. A visitor center displays information and artifacts of the fort’s history.

Washoe Lake State Park events in April feature astronomy program, wildflower walk and hikes

Washoe Lake State Park is hosting a variety of events during the month of April, including a basic astronomy program focusing on year-round (circumpolar) constellations, a wildflower walk, a full moon hike and a guided hike through the sand dunes.

I’ve always loved Tuesdays and today is a good representation of what the day can offer. National Pancake Day at IHOP means a free short stack; but they are hoping you’ll donate to the Children’s Miracle Network. Jazz and Poetry take over Comma Coffee this evening; the Mile High Jazz Band can be found there every second Tuesday all year long. Get your fro-yo fix at Yogurt Beach and help raise funds for the annual Relay for Life fundraiser. A great panel of women will be at the Dayton Community Center this evening to share their experiences growing up on the Comstock.

Nevada is an important early precinct caucus state. Please come help us spread the word about Bernie Sanders and our caucus this Saturday (2/20/16) as we go do to door and talk with voters in our neighborhoods

We will offer a brief canvass training and you will be provided canvass materials to include a script, a list of voters, Bernie literature, and a walk map. Please dress in layer, wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring a bottle water.

We have provided a 6 hour window but come when you can and canvass as many shifts as you are available to do.

Carson High CTE agriculture program teaches with pop culture, industry professionals

Carson High School Career and Technical Education agriculture program lead teacher, Charlie Mann, donned his dress, braided his beard and welcomed his Agriculture 1 students to the Hunger Games.

The Carson City students have been studying world hunger, commodities, production and trade throughout the semester, and the Hunger Games simulation gave them an opportunity to examine trade and barter with their peers while relating to popular culture.
