Democratic tele-luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Carson City Democratic tele-luncheon will be Laura E. Perkins, incumbent Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) regent for District 1 (North Las Vegas). She was sworn in on January 16, 2019 after winning 62% of the vote in a four-way race in the November, 2018 general election.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be environmental attorney Dan Galpern, who specializes in litigation to enforce compliance with laws, regulations and rulings related to climate change. Originally from New York City, Galpern is currently based out of his own public interest law firm in Eugene, Oregon.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Elizabeth Haase MD, Medical Director of Behavioral Health at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. A psychiatrist with decades in private practice, Dr. Haase also serves as part of the voluntary faculty at the University of Nevada-Reno School of Medicine. The focus of her remarks at the tele-luncheon will be the mental health impacts of climate change.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Ali Banister, Chief Juvenile Probation Officer for Carson City Juvenile Services. In addition to those duties, she also serves as an adjunct professor at Western Nevada College teaching juvenile law. At the tele-luncheon she will detail the range of juvenile services currently available in Carson City, with special emphasis on the psychological toll the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on the community's young people and their educational experience.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Sam Metz, capital reporter for the Associated Press and a corps member of the Report for America Statehouse News Initiative. Report for America is a nonprofit national service program, sponsored by the Boston-based GroundTruth Project, that develops fellowships aimed at talented, early-career journalists of different mediums, including print, photography, film and radio broadcast.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Mark Bettencourt, Project Director for the Nevada Coalition Against the Death Penalty (NVCADP). The Coalition is a diverse group of community members and organizations who use the voices of impacted individuals to shed light on the darkness of capital punishment and why it must be repealed.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Elliott Parker, PhD, Economics professor at the University of Nevada-Reno and Nevada's Second Gentleman.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Margarida Jorge, Executive Director of Health Care for America Now, or HCAN, a 501(c)(4) advocacy group that speaks on behalf of more than 1,000 organizations nationwide. In 2008 Margarida helped create and lead HCAN's campaign to overhaul the US health care system and extend insurance coverage to most of the country's previously uninsured population, and was chief architect of the organization's 47-state field program.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Alexander Marks, Communications Director for the Nevada State Education Association. A school union, the NSEA is the largest education association in the state of Nevada, and is an affiliate of the National Education Association. Using a PowerPoint, Alex will present background information and research reports on a variety of issues affecting education in Nevada.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Christine Saunders, Policy Director at Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada.

A Master of Social Work graduate with five years of non-profit organizing experience, Christine has focused on the development, management, implementation, and support of social justice programming and policy advocacy campaigns.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Ed Komenda, Las Vegas reporter for the Reno Gazette Journal. His presentation's primary focus will be on how Cliven Bundy's rhetoric could help fan the flames of far-right extremism in Nevada.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Sarah Adler, Principal at Silver State Government Relations. She will be speaking on behalf of the Nevada Housing Coalition, a group dedicated to the expansion of affordable housing solutions in the Silver State.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress. Her presentation will outline the hard choices legislators will be forced to make in the 81st session, which begins Monday.
