Reno paper's Las Vegas reporter to speak at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon
Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Ed Komenda, Las Vegas reporter for the Reno Gazette Journal. His presentation's primary focus will be on how Cliven Bundy's rhetoric could help fan the flames of far-right extremism in Nevada.
After graduating from Western Illinois University, Ed spent several years traveling the country, working at newspapers in Pennsylvania and South Florida. He also reported about neighborhoods on Chicago’s south side, his home turf, for DNAinfo Chicago. As a clean shaven reporter for the Northwest Herald, a family-owned newspaper an hour outside Chicago, he served as community watchdog, probing township government and delivering dispatches about McHenry County politics.
Before joining the Gazette Journal and the USA Today Network, Ed was a staff writer at the Las Vegas Sun, where he wrote about casinos, labor, real estate, crime, technology and iconic Nevada characters, including both the Bundy clan and Zappos magnate Tony Hsieh. He won a coveted Best of the West award for a story profiling the militiamen who flocked to the desert to stand alongside Bundy as his loyal fighting brigade. The Nevada Press Association also recognized him as a "Journalist of Merit."
Sponsored by the Democratic Men's Committee, this event is scheduled for noon on Monday, February 15th, and will be held online via Zoom teleconference due to the restricted availability of in-person venues. Those wishing to be on distribution for these Zoom links can email Rich Dunn, Men's Committee Events Coordinator, at richdunn@aol.com.
