Carson City Leisure Hour Club recognizes KNVC for community commitment

Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club recently donated $500 to KNVC community radio, 95.1 FM. The station was chosen as one of the club’s Outstanding Community Organizations earlier this year. The award was presented to Joe Bly, KNVC Program Director, at the station’s studios in Carson City.

Carson City Leisure Hour Club recognizes Nevada State Prison Preservation Society

Every year Carson City’s Leisure Hour Club recognizes local not-for-profit groups that excel in supporting the greater Carson City community. On Feb. 19 the club donated $500 to the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society. Glen Whorton, President of the NSPPS, accepted the donation and said that the donation will contribute to making the prison open to the public.

Carson City Historical Society to host Heritage Festival to celebrate 50th year

Carson City Historical Society will present a Heritage Festival to celebrate the 50th year of the Society. The event will be held at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum Park, 1207 N. Carson St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019. This is a free event.

Thursday Hike to Centennial Park on the Wild Horse Trail hosted by Muscle Powered

Join us on our free leader-led hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors! We have moved the Spooner Lake Hike on Thursday, May 30, 3:00 pm to the Wild Horse Trail, in Carson City.

The conditions at Spooner Lake this week will be cold and wet so we are moving Thursday's hike "down to the valley" and will be hiking at Centennial Park on the Wild Horse Trail. This trail starts behind the ballfields at Centennial Park. Drive all the way to the back of ballfields on Heritage Way where the trail starts. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

At the Leisure Hour Club’s May 15 meeting, the club installed officers for their 2019-20 year. Carson City Historical Society offering East Side tour

On Saturday, May 25, starting at 9:00 in front of the Capitol building on North Carson Street, the Carson City Historical Society will be offering a 90-minute walking tour to view historic sites east of N. Carson Street, starting with the Capitol Mall area.

Sites will include the Capitol and the Capitol Mall, the Charles Friend Park, the historic area called Chinatown, the old Armory, the site of the former Nevada Orphans Home, the early racetrack and location of the Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight, and more.

Blue Line Tour Historic Carson City Westside

On Saturday, March 16, 10 to 11:30 a.m. there will be a special free public "Blue Line" walking tour of the historic Carson City Westside neighborhood.

The tour starts in the front courtyard of the Nevada State Museum on N. Carson Street. The length of the walk is 1.5 miles lasting about 90 minutes while covering Nevada and Carson City history and viewing numerous historic homes and buildings along the way.

Carson City Historical Society Celebrates 50 Years

CCHS Board members and volunteers celebrate 50th anniversary.

Following a Carson City Historical Society Board meeting on Feb. 11, Board members gathered for a little celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CCHS.

The Nevada Landmarks Society (NLS) was founded on February 11, 1969, in order to preserve the Roberts House, the yellow Gothic Revival-style house at 1207 North Carson St., now known as the Foreman-Roberts House. The NLS later became the Carson City Historical Society.

Muscle Powered hosting a Hike to Galena Fall Trail

Join us on this leader-led hike to Galena Falls. An easy intermediate hike for those of you who like shorter hikes. This is a busy, popular trail at a high elevation, with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and a beautiful waterfall at our endpoint. This will be a 5-mile hike round-trip with a little over 500' gain through the hike.

This single track trail begins near the parking lot at the top of Mt. Rose Highway. Most of the trail is dirt but some areas are a bit rocky. This event will be about 4-5 hours which includes transportation time from Carson City, plus hike and snack time.

Muscle Powered Saturday Hike to Tahoe Meadows Interpretive Loop and Boardwalk Trail

Come and joined this Muscle Powered leader-led hike on Saturday to Tahoe Meadows Interpretive (TMI) Loop and Boardwalk trail. This beautiful trail starts at the Tahoe Meadows Tahoe Rim Trail Parking lot, on the south side of highway 431, just past the Mt. Rose Summit. It is an easy and fairly flat hike of about 4+ miles around the TMI Loop and then “down” the meadow trail to the boardwalk trail loop and back to the parking lot.
