Dangberg Ranch

Every winter, Carson Valley becomes a nesting ground for bald eagles, golden eagles, falcons, hawks, owls and other wildlife as they congregate to the region. Carson Valley’s expansive open space and cattle ranches provide habitat for the wintering birds of prey.

September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., the final event of the 2019 Festival season features members of the 1962 graduating class of Douglas High School sharing their memories of Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s.

Carson Valley has always been a unique, close-knit community. Of the original thirty-five graduating students, twenty-one are still living, many of whom have remained in Carson Valley.

It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!

Saturday, September 14

The final Chautauqua of the 2019 Festival season will portray Hiram D. Scott, Alpine County, California pioneer, on Sunday, September 22, at 10:00 am.

Hiram Daniel Scott was a ship builder from Pittston, Maine by trade. Initially he settled in Santa Cruz, California in 1847, then followed the Gold Rush when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill. There he operated a ferry business across the San Joaquin River.

Marching forward to the midweek, Wednesday, August 28, 2019 will continue to bring sunny skies with a chance of isolated thunderstorms around the capital city. Ahead for the day includes NNDA's Business Edge breakfast at Carson Valley Inn, A "Lunch and Learn" workshop at Carson Nugget, art showings, a Chautauqua presentation of "Sisters of the Sage" at Dangberg Historic Park, Salsa dancing and more.

August closes with a Chautauqua presentation “Sisters of the Sage” which will highlight the lives of Annie H. Martin, Lillian V. Finnegan and Anna N. Harris at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 28, at 6:30 p.m.

Heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 activities abound around the capital city. There's a new group for writers that meets at the Brewery Arts Center; a salary negotiation workshop at WNC, a chautauqua and author presentations at Dangberg Historic Park. There's also the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival that will feature the Wesley Orsolic Trio during Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC, with jams to continue at Living the Good Life; there's also a real estate workshop for veterans, art showings, salsa dancing and more. August continues with a Chautauqua presentation of Mary McNair Mathews and a presentation by author Brooke Santina at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Wednesday, August 14, at 6:30 pm, Mary McNair Mathews, Comstock businesswoman and author of the book Ten Years in Nevada will be portrayed by Anita Watson.

The month of August begins with a presentation on “The Great State Embezzlement,” Mo’z Motley Blues in concert and a presentation on “The History of Baseball in Nevada” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Sunday, August 4, at 10 a.m., Glen Whorton, President of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society, returns to the park to speak on this year’s topic “The Great State Embezzlement.” This is a free event for all to attend.

This month, Todd Morgan & the Emblems return for a third season and historian Dr. Michael Fischer will speak on the history of the Nevada Buckaroo at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Finishing touches are being done on Schulz Ranch Park, located on the south side of Carson City in the newly created subdivision at the east end of Topsy Lane.

The Schulz Ranch Park is so named because once upon a time, the area was a massive ranch owned by the Schulz family, along with Henry Dangberg of the Minden Dangberg Ranch family, who sold his holdings in the area to the state for what is now the Nevada Correctional Center.

A classic film, cowboy poetry and western music in mid-July at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Carson Valley. On Thursday, July 18, at 6:30 pm, train expert Jim Clark will introduce and provide commentary on the 1926 film The General.

Chautauquan Kim Harris will portray Lizzie A. Borden on Wednesday, July 10, at 6:30 p.m., and historian Mark McLaughlin will speak on “Lake Tahoe and the Comstock Era; Stories, Facts and Fun” on Saturday, July 13, at 10 a.m., at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Young Chautauquans of the Douglas County Historical Society will present "We Taught the World New Ways to Dream" at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, June 26, at 6:30 pm.

Hello Carson City. It is Thursday, June 13, 2019. After last night's thunderstorms that shook around the capital city we're looking at plenty of sunshine today with a daytime high around 86. Activities lined up include workshops, an anniversary party and showing at Artsy Fartsy art gallery, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, a Kiwanis Club meeting and Chamber annual meeting at The Martin Hotel, Cruise Night at Bully's Sports Bar, live music outdoors at Living the Good Life and more. The Old West Trio returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park this coming week in an evening concert, while two local musicians are featured at the park’s upcoming Neighbor Fair, an event highlighting Carson Valley’s non-profit organizations.

Early June events will launch the 2019 Summer Festival at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park in Douglas County.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the first day of the working week and the last week of November. It is Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. For those keeping score, there are 29 days left until Christmas. Were you able to get some of your holiday shopping done this weekend? You've got plenty of time this week to pick up good bargains, though it will be somewhat soggy outside. A series of winter storms will push through the Sierra and Carson City region this week.

The Carson City Cultural Commission will introduce its newest board members on Monday, Nov. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center.

Mylo McCormick and Christopher Leyva are the two newest board members, appointed by the Board of Supervisors on October 4.

Chautauquan Cindy Southerland will portray “Annie H. Martin: The First Woman to Head a U.S. Treasury Facility, the Assay Office at Carson City” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, August 29 at 6:30 pm.

Sierra Sweethearts will bring bluegrass music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23.

Singer and song writer Mike Beck will bring Western Americana music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16.

Chautauquan Deke DiMarzo will portray Watchman Alex Coryell: Virginia City Police Department 1873 to 1891 at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Author Robin Holabird will present “Elvis, Marilyn and the Space Aliens: Nevada Screen Icons” in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 10:00 am.

Chautauquan and noted local historian Michael Fischer will portray “Heinrich Friedrich Dangberg, Sr.” in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 4, at 10 a.m.

In a return engagement, Sacramento area band, Todd Morgan and the Emblems, will bring 50s, 60s and Rockabilly style music to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 26.

Chautauquan Larry Lippmann will portray notorious stagecoach robber Black Bart at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 18 at 6:30 pm.

Author and grandson of Fred Dangberg, Jr., Steve Achard will speak on his book Lost Legacy of Carson Valley, as well as his memories of growing up at the Home Ranch, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, July 15, at 10 a.m.

Chautauquan Doug Mishler will portray circus showman P.T. Barnum at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 11 at 6:30 p.m.
