Eagles and Raptors Make Their Return to Carson Valley

Every winter, Carson Valley becomes a nesting ground for bald eagles, golden eagles, falcons, hawks, owls and other wildlife as they congregate to the region. Carson Valley’s expansive open space and cattle ranches provide habitat for the wintering birds of prey.

Jean Marie Hamilton
September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

Remembering Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s at Dangberg Historic Park

On Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., the final event of the 2019 Festival season features members of the 1962 graduating class of Douglas High School sharing their memories of Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s.

Carson Valley has always been a unique, close-knit community. Of the original thirty-five graduating students, twenty-one are still living, many of whom have remained in Carson Valley.

Chautauqua of Hiram D. Scott at Dangberg Historic Park

The final Chautauqua of the 2019 Festival season will portray Hiram D. Scott, Alpine County, California pioneer, on Sunday, September 22, at 10:00 am.

Hiram Daniel Scott was a ship builder from Pittston, Maine by trade. Initially he settled in Santa Cruz, California in 1847, then followed the Gold Rush when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill. There he operated a ferry business across the San Joaquin River.

Guest Speakers and Mo'z Motley Blues at Dangberg Historic Park

The month of August begins with a presentation on “The Great State Embezzlement,” Mo’z Motley Blues in concert and a presentation on “The History of Baseball in Nevada” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

On Sunday, August 4, at 10 a.m., Glen Whorton, President of the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society, returns to the park to speak on this year’s topic “The Great State Embezzlement.” This is a free event for all to attend.

Todd Morgan & The Emblems and the History of the Nevada Buckaroo at Dangberg Historic Park

This month, Todd Morgan & the Emblems return for a third season and historian Dr. Michael Fischer will speak on the history of the Nevada Buckaroo at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

Schulz Ranch Park is nearly complete, and its history tells a story of Carson City ranching

Finishing touches are being done on Schulz Ranch Park, located on the south side of Carson City in the newly created subdivision at the east end of Topsy Lane.

The Schulz Ranch Park is so named because once upon a time, the area was a massive ranch owned by the Schulz family, along with Henry Dangberg of the Minden Dangberg Ranch family, who sold his holdings in the area to the state for what is now the Nevada Correctional Center.
