Wednesday welcomes new business, new art, and the Carson High Talent Show

You won’t find this Wednesday lacking when it comes to stuff to do, explore, and enjoy. The annual Carson High Talent Show always delights and thoroughly entertains the audience. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception for their newest display, the ‘Break These Chains Live Free’ Art Exhibit, featuring the winning pieces from a high school contest designed to bring awareness to human trafficking. A cute new shop downtown, Rustically Divine, celebrates it’s Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting.

Carson City's very own Celtic music series continues Saturday when The Valerie Rose Band takes center stage at the Brewery Arts Center in the Maizie Harris Jesse Black Box Theater.

First Judicial Court Juvenile Division judge addresses foster shortage in Carson City

There are not enough foster families in Carson City to meet the need, forcing children to be displaced into other communities — possibly causing further trauma. Information meetings this Wednesday and in March will address the shortage and ways to recruit families wanting to help.

There doesn’t seem to be any ‘brrrr’ in this February so far, and this week won’t buck the warm weather trend. A new exhibit can be found at the CCAI Gallery on the second floor of the Carson City Courthouse: Writing from Mars, by Rick Parsons, is on display until May 23. Red’s Old 395 is known for their happy hour with great drink prices and yummy appetizers. Martinis are half-price today if you need to unwind.

Senator Square: Into the 'Depps' of Winterfest at Carson High School

Winterfest 2018 is here, and the theme is “Into the Depps of Winterfest"— as in Johnny Depp — with a week stuffed full of fun activities. Depp says, “I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you’re on it” and this is what Carson High School students intend to do all week long.

Check in is at 9 a.m. Auditions begin at 10 a.m. A $500 cash prize will be awarded to the first place performing act, $250 for second place and $100 for third.

Sierra Lutheran Hosts Mini Cheer Camp

This annual event is hosted by the SLHS Cheerleaders at Sierra Lutheran. Students will learn cheers, jumps, and a band dance, then perform at the half-time of the Sierra Lutheran JV boys game for the whole family to come watch! (at no additional cost!). Cost is $30 per student, $25 for each additional sibling. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to local resident Aunicka Pierce, an 11-year-old recently diagnosed with bone cancer.
