SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties gathers for a public meeting featuring guest speakers and discussion of regional issues on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. This month’s breakfast meeting takes place on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Silver Springs Community Center in the Lahontan meeting room at 2945 Fort Churchill Street.

Southwest Gas proposes $3 a month rate hike for northern Nevada customers

CARSON CITY — Nevada's Public Utilities Commission will hold a consumer meeting to get feedback on plans by Southwest Gas to raise rates for northern Nevada gas customers by 3 percent or nearly $3 a month.

$1.2 million available for recreational trails projects

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of State Parks administers grant funds from the Recreational Trails Program of the Federal Highway Administration. Approximately $1.2 million in funding is available for the 2019 fiscal year. Applications are due by November 9, 2018.

UPDATE: Washoe Lake Dam breach concerns lessen as repairs begin, flood watch canceled

TUESDAY UPDATE: A Flood Watch has been canceled for the Washoe Lake Dam, according to National Weather Service in Reno. Officials say mitigation efforts have reduced the hazard of a potential breach in the dam at Little Washoe Lake. There was concern the dam could breach or collapse after a hole was discovered in it.

The Nevada Division of Water Resources reports that after a routine inspection Monday, it was determined the Washoe Lake Dam is in danger of potentially breaching that would cause flooding in the Steamboat Creek and Steamboat Ditch areas.

The Western Nevada FC Coyotes will be holding a 48-hour 12th Man fundraising campaign starting Tuesday, May 8 at 10 a.m. Money raised during the campaign will help offset some of the costs the team incurs, especially on road trips. The club has set a goal for this fundraiser of $5,000 with 200 people joining at various levels within the 12th Man Club.
