SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — The Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties gathers for a public meeting featuring guest speakers and discussion of regional issues on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. This month’s breakfast meeting takes place on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the Silver Springs Community Center in the Lahontan meeting room at 2945 Fort Churchill Street.

CARSON CITY — Nevada's Public Utilities Commission will hold a consumer meeting to get feedback on plans by Southwest Gas to raise rates for northern Nevada gas customers by 3 percent or nearly $3 a month.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of State Parks administers grant funds from the Recreational Trails Program of the Federal Highway Administration. Approximately $1.2 million in funding is available for the 2019 fiscal year. Applications are due by November 9, 2018.

The book award in Creative Nonfiction for the WILLA Literary Award goes to Mary Lee Fulkerson and her book, Women Artists of the Great Basin. The book is replete with 120 stunning color photographs of the artists and their works by master photographer Susan E. Mantle.

CARSON CITY — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, in conjunction with the Nevada Appeal, is selling dining cards featuring coupons from more than a dozen local restaurants. Proceeds will help fund tween and teen leadership programs, Torch and Keystone Clubs.

Carson City attorney, Joel W. Locke, a partner at Allison MacKenzie Law Firm pens a short series on “The Rule of Law” to help educate Nevada businesses on its impact.

Locke recently attended the State Bar of Nevada Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. The three-day event was held at the Drake Hotel on July 12-14, 2018. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation will host public information meetings in July and August to provide updates on corridor selection for the future Interstate 11 connecting the Las Vegas valley and northwestern Nevada.

There may be a new head coach and a new name, but the Nevada Coyotes did what they’ve done all season long — win. The latest victory came against Southern Oregon Starphire FC in the Wild West Cup Semifinals by the score of 2-0.

The win advances the club to its second consecutive cup final.

Reno resident Russell Lehmann, speaker, author, poet and advocate for autism, spoke at the Association for People Supporting Employment First’s 2018 national conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, June 26-28. This is one of 30 nationwide engagements Lehmann has booked this year.

TUESDAY UPDATE: A Flood Watch has been canceled for the Washoe Lake Dam, according to National Weather Service in Reno. Officials say mitigation efforts have reduced the hazard of a potential breach in the dam at Little Washoe Lake. There was concern the dam could breach or collapse after a hole was discovered in it.

The Nevada Division of Water Resources reports that after a routine inspection Monday, it was determined the Washoe Lake Dam is in danger of potentially breaching that would cause flooding in the Steamboat Creek and Steamboat Ditch areas.

The fourth week of the American Pyramid National Rankings has a very familiar look to it, at least on top. The Western Nevada FC Coyotes have retained their spot as the No. 1 team in the country, and has been on top of the rankings they began for this season.

The Western Nevada FC Coyotes entered this past Saturday’s match at Real San Jose looking to not only increase its UPSL-unbeaten streak to 10 games, but also to clinch a spot in the Wild West Conference playoffs. In the end, the team was able to accomplish both goals with a 2-1 victory.

Riding a 9-game UPSL unbeaten streak, the Western Nevada FC Coyotes travel to San Jose, CA to take on Real San Jose this Saturday at 6:45 pm. The Coyotes currently sit atop the Wild West Conference standings at 7-1-0 with 22 points. The club is also the number one ranked team in the country for the second consecutive week.

The Western Nevada FC Coyotes will be holding a 48-hour 12th Man fundraising campaign starting Tuesday, May 8 at 10 a.m. Money raised during the campaign will help offset some of the costs the team incurs, especially on road trips. The club has set a goal for this fundraiser of $5,000 with 200 people joining at various levels within the 12th Man Club.
