A fourth grade Fritsch Elementary School student took second place overall in the statewide girls division and 8th place overall in the elementary division of the National Archery In The Schools competition held recently in Las Vegas.

A Spinone Italiano, Adele, owned by Carson City Deputy Director of Emergency Management Stacey Belt, made the cut to the final sporting dogs at the 142nd Westminster Dog Show in New York City on Tuesday. Ultimately, a bichon frise named Flynn was picked “best in show.”

The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Alex Elkin this Friday, Jan. 26 at the Carson Nugget in Carson City. He started his comedy career in the clubs of Hollywood California before he was old enough to be allowed in the front door.

At age 18 he took on the wilds of the Jungle Cruise as a skipper for the Disneyland Resort cracking jokes on and off the boat. He was selected as a finalist in the Laugh Factorys International Donald Trump Impersonator contest.

Carson City area native, Carson High and UNR graduate Rachel Lindgren was victorious Friday, winning this week's matchup on the long-running popular quiz show “Jeopardy.”

“I feel pretty darn good,” she said. “I was getting really nervous watching with everyone (at a viewing party), even though I already knew how it ended.”

After back to back three-day weekends, this one may feel a little short. Grab onto the hours allotted and have a good time. The monthly downtown wine walk is a great way to catch up with friends after the bustle of the holiday season. The annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series offers the Winter Round-up 5 or 10K. If staying active is a resolution, then a brisk run in our hills fits the bill. For something less strenuous, you can join our Parks and Recreation Department for a Winter Wonderland Walk along the Carson River.

Outdoor summer concert series returns to Carson City in 2018

The Mortimer and Mimi Levitt Foundation on Tuesday named Carson City as one of 15 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25,000 in matching funds to present a free concert series at the Minnesota Street Stage. The Brewery Arts Center has been a recipient of the grant for the third straight year.

Trevor and Tessa Rotoli have been operating Just Brew It, Carson City’s local brewing supply store, since 2010.

The husband and wife team have expanded the business over the years with more space, product, and added sales of craft beer and a four-tap bar.

Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

Bethlehem Lutheran School Crowns Geography Bee Champion

Nathan Tack, a Bethlehem Lutheran fifth grader, won the school-level competition of the National Geography Bee held this week. His win over 8th grader, Parsa Hadjighasemi, who finished second, qualifies him for a chance at an eventual first place prize of a $50,000 scholarship.

Senator Square: CHS turns to Angel Tree giving, speech, debate and Zombie texting awareness

Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City, recently received a $2000 grant from Nevada Department of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board to facilitate a video competition to create public service announcements about the dangers of texting and driving.

Santa comes in all shapes, sizes, and apparently, vehicles. Hop aboard the Santa Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum. It’s an out-of-this-world Alien Santa at the annual Zen Christmas at A to Zen. A cookie-loving Santa can be found at Adele’s during their annual toy drive for the Ron Wood Resource Center. If your ‘kids’ are the four-legged kind, then head over to PetSmart or Paws to Pur-fection Dog Grooming for your holiday photos.
