UPDATE: Carson High, UNR grad defeats 2-day 'Jeopardy' champion, advances to Monday match
*UPDATE* Added quotes from Friday's winner, Rachel Lindgren.
Carson City area native, Carson High and UNR graduate Rachel Lindgren was victorious Friday, winning this week's matchup on the long-running popular quiz show “Jeopardy.”
“I feel pretty darn good,” she said. “I was getting really nervous watching with everyone (at a viewing party), even though I already knew how it ended.”
The 26-year-old 2009 CHS grad out maneuvered two other contestants with the correct answer to the Final Jeopardy question, “It’s the only world capital whose name is derived from an Algonquin word.” The correct answer all three contestants answered correctly, Ottawa, finished out the show, with Lindgren wagering enough money to advance her into the next game.
The other contestant, Sarah, an attorney from Lakewood, Colo., and Lee, a teacher from Raleigh, NC provided steep competition. Lee was a two-day champion with $42,800 already won.
A very close battle between Lee and Rachel ensued with the match coming down to the very last clue. Rachel held a slight $1,500 margin on Lee before Final Jeopardy, with Sarah at $6,400.
All three contestants answered correctly during Final Jeopardy, but with Lee betting $10,000 he came up short to Rachel who also bet $10,000 bringing her winning total to $24,800 — beating out the two-day champ by $1,200.
“Lee was just so good,” Lindgren said. “I’m glad it was a suspenseful game because there is so much relief now, and more excitement for Monday.”
You can view a rerun of Friday's show on Monday, 4 p.m., and you can catch the premiere of the second episode with Lindgren, at 7 p.m., on ABC's Northern Nevada affiliate KOLO Channel 8 as she attempts to carry on winning.
“I’m just glad I can finally talk about it, at least one day of it,” Lindgren said.
