City Supervisor Jim Shirk reaches out to constituents

One of the basic threads of conversation is listening. And that's why Carson City Supervisor Jim Shirk is seeking feedback from his constituents.

“My goal: Improve communication between city government and citizens. Meeting members of the community on their terms will help to build community awareness. We need to find ways to broaden and deepen the community access to local government, and the first step: ease of accessibility.”

Shirk says he is available six days a week, excluding Sunday, to meet at his office or at a convenient location.

Assistant DA Mark Krueger to run for top Carson City District Attorney seat

Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger on Saturday announced his candidacy for Carson City District Attorney.

As Assistant District Attorney, Krueger has been second in command at the Carson City District Attorney’s Office since 2012 and leads a team of 22 professional and support staff.

“I have extensive experience working with city government and the criminal justice system,” he said. “Carson City needs an experienced prosecutor, civil litigator and team leader to fill the important role of District Attorney and I bring that to the table.”

Cops and Kids Sheriff's Open House today in Carson City

Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host the 8th Annual Cops and Kids Sheriff’s Open House safety, crime and substance abuse awareness fair today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, 911 E. Musser Street. Cops and Kids Sheriff’s Open House was started by Sheriff Ken Furlong as part of the community policing efforts implemented by his administration.

Carson High Visited by Army National Guard

Carson High School students and faculty were treated to an aviation display when the Nevada Army National Guard flew in its CH47 Chinook helicopter for a few hours this afternoon.

The Carson City stopover was part of a planned community awareness day at the high school, where students could see up close the transport helicopter and ask questions among Guard staff and recruiters and inquire about opportunities.

Family TIES of Nevada Appoints New Executive Director

Family TIES of Nevada announced today that it has appointed Melanie Kauffman as its new Executive Director. Ms. Kauffman will oversee the organization’s operations, achievement of its mission, and strategic planning objectives.

Charter Public Middle School Town Hall Meeting

Coral Academy of Science Charter School representatives and parents will be in Carson City on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at Western Nevada College in Marlette Hall to discuss the possibility of bringing Coral Academy to Carson City.
