Carson Middle School celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week with a 'Survivor' challenge twist
Carson Middle School’s administration has created a twist to Teacher Appreciation Week. The weeklong celebration of teachers, held May 2-9, usually comes with a letter of appreciation and perhaps a small gift.
This year, CMS teachers and staff are also competing for prizes and honors in a school-wide Survivor Game. Every morning teachers spin to see which challenges and bonus prizes have been assigned to them for the day. Challenges can include encouraging other staff members, practicing self-care, or doing something silly, such as filming yourself breakdancing.
Principal Dan Sadler writes, “I want to make this the best teacher/staff appreciation week that CMS has ever seen.”
In addition to the added fun and excitement of the ongoing Survivor Game, teachers and staff are celebrating by being treated to lunches from El Charro Avitia and Firehouse Subs.
The CMS Advanced Leadership Class hosted a Cinco de Mayo social for the staff. Eleanor Whitehead, an eighth grade teacher, said “I am very grateful for leadership. Cool decoration and food in the library is always fun.”
While all of the gifts are nice, the best gifts are the emails and hand-written letters that the students write to show their appreciation. Seventh-grade social studies teacher, Steffany Walker, writes, “We love our students and we know they love us too, but it is really nice to get find those notes on our desks.”
