It’s finally here, the last weekend of 2017. It’s fairly quiet around town, until Sunday night, that is. Today, Muscle Powered is leading a five-mile half-day hike along Prison Hill. Take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, and join them. The Carson Nugget is hosting three nights of comedy this weekend: catch Myles Weber on the stage tonight. Head’s up. Galaxy Theater usually plays a movie from the past on Sundays and Wednesdays. This week, we get treated to the Christmas Classic, Die Hard. You won’t want to miss that.

SATURDAY:

A long weekend is just beginning. Tonight, funnyman Steven Briggs kicks off three nights of comedians at Carson Comedy inside of the Nugget Casino. Whiskey Tavern on Highway 50 East hosts a Friday night karaoke party. Enjoy the music stylings of Tom Miller during dinner at Living the Good Life, then stick around for some dancing.

Mike Betancourt is Intense, energetic, animated, and outrageous. These are just a few of the words that describe multi-faceted performer and creator Mike Betancourt, the comedian, actor, writer and producer. As a comedian, Mike tears up stages all around the nation and creates new fans wherever he goes.

Myles has a comedic magnetism that's right up there with Robin Williams. Myles has appeared on MTV's "Greatest Party Story Ever". You may have also seen Weber as the Host for Portico TV or maybe youve seen him as a correspondent for Popular Science, one of the biggest science websites in the world.

Also able to flex his comedy writing muscle, Myles wrote for Portico and Smosh Pit Weekly on Smoshs YouTube Channel. (The biggest gaming channel in the world.) Myles' high energy crowd work has kept audiences in stitches all across the U.S. and Canada.

The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Steven Briggs an LA based comedian and actor, Steven Briggs entertains audiences with his high-energy unique style of beatboxing fused with personal storytelling. Steven has performed in clubs and theaters across nineteen US states and seven different countries.

In addition to touring outside of the US, Briggs has hosted film festivals and more recently performed for the troops in Addis Ababa, Djibouti, Kuwait and Bahrain. His TV appearances include local networks and ESPN.

There are some fairly excited kids throughout the valley. This last Friday before Christmas marks the beginning of winter break. The Carson City Library invites everyone in the community to participate in the annual Winter Read-a-thon with a goal of 90,000 minutes read (or listened to) over the next two weeks. Friday has finally arrived, and it has brought some nightlife with it. Enjoy the Trippin King Snakes on stage at the Max Casino. The Carson Nugget gives you comedian John Hilder in Carson Comedy and the band Adrenaline playing in ‘The Loft.’ Kids will love the Wild Horse Children’s Theater production of ‘Honk, Jr.’, while ‘Love/Sick,’ performed by the Proscenium Players, is meant for an older audience. Let Roska Entertainment take you into late-night with their weekly dance party in Battle Born Social’s Sage Lounge.

We’ve got one heck of a weekend on its way, and it’s starting right now. Start off with a trip to the Governor’s Mansion with something non-perishable for the annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive: you won’t even have to leave the warmth of your vehicle. Break a leg to Wild Horse Children’s Theater and to the Proscenium Players. Both troupes begin the run of their winter plays tonight at the Brewery Arts Center. It’s a Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Fuji Park. You’ll find a plethora of vendors, crafters, and artisans waiting to help make your holiday shopping hassle-free.

The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Daniel Humbarger. Daniel is an attorney-turned-comedian, but if you ask him, hes a purveyor of humor and ideology. Daniels stand-up is inspired from real life experiences and observations, which he uses to create completely original material.

December has arrived, and all things holidays are on the way. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting Celebration tonight will shut down traffic on Carson City for a little while. Sleigh rides, caroling, the Empty Bowls Soup Fest, and a performance by the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers are just some of the planned festivities. Stay downtown for comedy at the Carson Nugget, Improv at the Brewery Arts Center, or a live DJ at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar and at Battle Born Social. The Carson Comedy Club Presents Comedian Ryan Wingfield! Ryan is considered among the smartest writers on the comedy scene, Ryan Wingfield is quite possibly the funniest thing to come out of Alaska. He uses a combination of misdirection and innuendo, he keeps his comedy clean while still maintaining an edge. His show includes social satire with a mixture of his own life experiences. From growing up in one of the coldest places on earth to his current role as a stay-at-home dad and "trophy husband."

Once the turkey has been devoured, all thoughts turn toward shopping. Shop Small Saturday helps to throw a spotlight on our local gems, and the great gifts you’ll find. New this year is Museum Store Sunday with both the Nevada State Museum and the Nevada State Railroad Museum participating. Make time for family and friends at the annual Nutcracker Ballet performed by Pinkerton Ballet at the Carson City Community Center. Keep reading and have a safe and happy holiday weekend.

On November 24th, 2017, The Carson Comedy Club inside of the Carson Nugget presents Comedian Carlos Rodriguez. The 21 and older show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available from guest services.

Based out of Atlanta, Carlos is a Navy veteran, a family man, and one who loves to make people laugh. Humor and comedy have kept Carlos sane in one of the most stressful and unenjoyable places to be.

The wet weather has passed, at least for a few days. If you didn’t want to brave the downpour to drop-off a frozen turkey Thursday, then you are in luck. Another frozen turkey drive runs all day at the Max Casino in Carson City or the Sanchez Meat Co. in Minden. The Carson High Craft Show, a long-time locals’ favorite, begins this evening at 5 p.m.

On Veterans Day, we take time to honor those men and women that have served in our armed forces. The holiday is observed today, meaning schools and public offices will be closed. Several locations have something special for Veterans this weekend, go HERE for a list of freebies, specials and discounts good today or tomorrow.

The wind yesterday has blown some winter our way. The snow levels aren’t expected to reach Carson City, but stranger things have happened. November is a month filled with holiday craft shows, and it starts now. Check out what the Young at Heart Seniors Club has to offer at their annual show at the Douglas Community Center. Capital City Arts Initiative celebrates 15 years of bringing arts and culture to our valley: help them celebrate at the Adams Hub on Proctor and enjoy their silent auction featuring the works of several local artists.

Finally, Nevada Day weekend is here. State offices are closed, the kids are off school, and Carson City is hoppin’. Join the Downtown Business Association for the ‘Passport to Downtown’ with live music, a raffle, craft and vendor show, and a family fun center, complete with petting zoo. Stick around for the annual fall Blinky Man Costumed Nighttime Bike Ride Pub Crawl with Lights. Halloween festivities, a carnival in Mills Park, and opening night of the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow are on today’s list, as well.

Well, that was an abrupt change in weather. Today will definite feel like fall, so bundle up. The Halloween festivities for the over 21 crowd get started tonight with parties at Living the Good Life, Ed's Doghouse, and Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. If your costume isn't ready yet, you'll still have plenty of opportunities between now and Oct. 31. A hypnotic fundraiser for Mark Lindquist takes place at Silver Oak Golf Course this evening.

TedX has returned to the Brewery Arts Center, bringing inspiring speakers, great music, and something special to Carson City. Break a leg to the talented members of our Carson High School Theater Program – an updated version of the Greek Classic ‘Eurydice’ opens on the Bob Boldrick stage at the Community Center tonight. Stand-up Comic Mickey Joseph was a finalist in 1998 SF Comedy Competition. Throughout the 80's and 90's, he appeared on ABC'S America's Funniest People, NBC'S Friday Night Videos, and FOX TV'S Comedy Day. He has also headlined Harvey's in Portland, Indianapolis Comedy Connection, Governors in NY, the Icehouse in Pasadena, Comedy Underground in Seattle, Rooster T. Feathers in Sunnyvale. and many more.

The Carson Comedy Club presents the Best of Sean Peabody with material from his last 15 years of stand up comedy.

Sean will be mixing in old material including greatest hits such as the lawnmower, mom does chores and dad in the garage and new material to make one great set!

Raised in Northern Nevada, Oscar Ovies exploded onto the comedy scene with his national TV debut in 2010 on Showtime's The Green Collar Comedy Show. This lifetime funnyman brings a sarcastic and admittedly nerdy view of the world both onstage and as the co-host of the late night comedy show The Half Hour Happy Hour.

From Halloween to Taco Bell, racism to relationships, no matter what the subject, once you've seen things through the eyes of Oscar Ovies you're not likely to see it the same way again.

This weekend is going to be packed. Vintage Airstreams will line the streets, a wine walk, the Aviation Roundup in Minden, Virginia City’s Outhouse Races, Oktoberfest at Fandango: and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Battle Born Harley is hosting one heck of a party, so head down there for bikes, brews, and lots of live music. For something quieter, the final weekend of 'Nightfall with Edgar Allen Poe' at the Brewery Arts Center is a great alternative. Funny lady and local favorite, Kat Simmons, is this week's featured performer at Carson Comedy inside the Nugget - stick around downtown and enjoy Southbound Train at the Westside Pour House.

Autumn is coming. It seems our days of 80+ degree weather is over, but so are rainy days we’ve seen this week. The Carson Aquatic Center welcomes everyone to a ‘Dive-in Movie’ on their new LED screen: Finding Nemo is a perfect flick for the whole family. Funnyman Adam Stone headlines this week’s Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget for those needing a good laugh. The Carson Area Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will gather to honor those who have given their all and have yet to come home during a POW/MIA Recognition Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on the Capitol Grounds.
