Carson City Deputy Sheriff's Association opens account for officer stricken with cancer

The Carson City Deputy Sheriff’s Association has set up an account for Deputy Kip Lee who has recently been diagnosed with myeloma, a type of bone cancer. Deputy Lee will be seeking treatment at a cancer center in Utah for three months.

Deputy Lee, a married father of three, has been a law officer in Carson City for more than five years.

Patricia Potter, former Carson City educator and chair of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board of Trustees, dies

Patricia Potter, former Carson City educator and former chair of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board of Trustees, died at her Carson City home at 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010. She was 80.

"I was saddened to learn of Pat's passing," said U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

"She was a good teacher and a good friend to many Nevadans," Reid added.

"Pat was a strong advocate for change and fought for a better Nevada as chair of the Carson City Democratic Central Committee. My thoughts go out to Pat's family and friends during this difficult time," Reid stated.

2nd Annual Concert Under the Stars, Carson City Greenhouse Project Benefit

The summer heats up with the 2nd annual “Concert Under the Stars” July 14th behind Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge in Carson City. Proceeds benefit Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. “Sons of Champlin” will headline the event. Led by former Chicago singer and band member Bill Champlin, the Sons are one of the pioneering bay area bands from the 1960s music scene and continue to rock audiences today. Gibbons OPEN Government Initiative Passes Challenge Period, Signature Gathering Begins

CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons has announced his initiative petition to amend state law to subject public employee union negotiations to Nevada’s open meeting law has passed a legal challenge period, allowing the signature gathering process to begin.

On Tax Day it was my day off so I thought I'd go to the Tea Party in front of the Legislature to check out the scene. As a Progressive in my first Tea Party, I found it both exhiliarating and stomach turning. Despite my patchouli scented locks and my tie dyed hat, no one seemed to recognize me as "the enemy" so I browsed and schmoozed freely all over the area. Met 2 ex-coworkers there who were protesting with signs and I even got my picture taken with Govenor Gibbons! (I'll attach it here if I can.) He was real nice.

Fire at the F.I.S.H. men's shelter

According to Gerie Stanko, director of development for F.I.S.H., "A smoldering electrical fire was discovered at 7:20 this morning at FISH's men's shelter, Focus House, on State of Nevada property in Carson City.

"Twenty-one male residents in the shelter have been displaced. Red Cross will provide 2-4 days of lodging. The fire inspector said that the building has to be re-wired which could exceed 30 days.
