Free training program for care givers of elderly veterans and others
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 12/28/2016 - 6:18pmThe Nevada Department of Veterans Services will be sponsoring two FREE comprehensive training programs to assist those caring for aging veterans, including those living in eldercare communities.
The programs are called "Bravo Zulu: Achieving Excellence in Relationship-Centered Care." They're designed to give care partners of veterans a better understanding of military culture as well as the influence and impact of military service experiences on the healthcare needs of aging veterans.

October is SUID, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month
Submitted by editor on Wed, 10/15/2014 - 5:06pmCarson City – The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health recognizes the month of October as Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), Pregnancy, and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and Oct. 15 as National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.
The DPBH is working to reduce pregnancy loss and infant mortality rates through collaboration and participation in both the Learning Network on Improving Birth Outcomes and Collaborative Improvement & Innovation Network to Reduce Infant Mortality (CoIIN), as well as funding a pilot Fetal Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) in Washoe County.
Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health to use settlement money for immunization efforts

Halloween train ride aboard V&T to raise money for cancer patients and caregivers

The Oct. 27 Halloween V&T train is a fundraiser for the nonprofit foundation Empowered Lives through the Cancer Journey, an organization established to support, encourage and empower both the patient and their caregivers throughout their cancer treatment.
Carson City authorities make a number of assault, domestic violence arrests
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/15/2012 - 10:42amA Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her family. According to the arrest report the mother of the woman who was beaten called authorities saying that her daughter had been assaulted.
