Heading into Thursday, happenings lined up include a monthly meeting of the Carson City Native and Newcomers, a preserving history workshop through the Nevada State Archives, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, an introduction into improv comedy at the Brewery Arts Center, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more. All are invited to the Carson City Native And Newcomers Club meeting on Thursday, March 12. Our club is a nonprofit serving the Carson City area. We meet monthly except, August, for lunch and discussion.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

A Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a trained volunteer appointed by a judge to speak up for the best interests of children in foster care. CASA Volunteers are Everyday Heroes who come from all walks of life and serve as the eyes and ears of the Court.

Please join Chapter AA of Carson City for a fun and entertaining afternoon at the Governor's Mansion within the Nevada Room on October 12, 2019 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature Paulette Grune and her Lady's Maid demonstrating her delightful Victorian fashions "From the Bloomers on Up."

We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." There's also a free creative event: "Community Art Card, Creating Social Circle" at Comma Coffee, Salsa dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. The conditions at Spooner Lake this week will be cold and wet so we are moving Thursday's hike "down to the valley" and will be hiking at Centennial Park on the Wild Horse Trail. This trail starts behind the ballfields at Centennial Park. Drive all the way to the back of ballfields on Heritage Way where the trail starts. Water and sturdy closed-toe shoes required. Hat, sunscreen and hiking poles recommended.

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

Beyond the weather we're looking at a blockbuster day and night filled will activities throughout town. From library presentations, a TV show casting call at the Carson Nugget, an afternoon hike, to a train history presentation, a book signing at the Brewery Arts Center, a CHS theater performance and the Carson City movie screening premier of "The Mustang" filmed at the historic Nevada State Prison, there's something for everyone.
