If you live in or around the capital region on Nevada Day, you know all too well how chaotic Carson City can become, with tens of thousands of people flooding in to celebrate the anniversary of Nevada Statehood. This year however, this well-loved Nevada tradition made its debut around the world, courtesy of the National Grassroots Broadcasting Network.

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

Heading into Tuesday, expect continued sunny skies and cool temperatures. Events for the day include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, Fall job fairs hosted by Nevada JobConnect and the Carson Nugget, the 3rd annual "BOO-nanza" celebration at the Carson City Community Center and library, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs and more.

With the wildly festive Nevada Day weekend now behind us, a busy week is ahead as we begin to close out October and prepare to celebrate Halloween in the capital city. Activities Monday include a lunch discussion with the director of the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club, art showings, West Coast swing dancing and more.

Counting down the hours until the Nevada Day weekend celebration begins, we're heading into Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 with sunny skies in the forecast through Sunday. Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Other activities around the capital city include a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, art showings, library activities, a gold and silver rush presentation at the Nevada State Museum and more.

Each year, the Nevada Day parade makes its way through downtown Carson City in the biggest event of the year. The annual celebration of Nevada's induction into Statehood is a time-honored and popular tradition, with upwards of 20,000 people flocking to the Capital region. This year, however, you don't have to be in the Capital city to be a part of the celebration.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. Going into Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019 more sunny skies and warm fall temperatures will continue to shine on the capital city as we prepare for the Nevada Day weekend. Ahead Tuesday include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a "haunted" cemetery tour at Lone Mountain, a business networking meeting at Casino Fandango and the Fat Tuesday business networking group at Carson Nugget, archery at Centennial Park and more. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

The capital city's sometimes spooky and intriguing Victorian era history will come alive theatrically and more this Saturday at the 27th annual day-long Carson City Ghost Walk. Hear about lingering spirits of the past through haunted and paranormal stories, meet larger the life costumed characters and then tour some of those historic homes and businesses that line the downtown area.

The Proscenium Players Inc. are performing War of the Worlds in the Brewery Art Center’s Black Box Theatre on Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23. The shows starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m.

On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles directed and narrated a radio drama adaptation of H.G. Wells’s novel War of the Worlds. Audiences tuned-in to hear the stories of Martians crash-landing on earth, not knowing it was only a play, and prompted news stories of widespread panic over a nonexistent alien invasion.

It's that spooky time again, when the leaves begin to fall, Nevada Day is gearing up to bring us the best parade in the state, and our little ghouls and goblins are putting together their terrifying and adorable costumes in preparation for sugary chaos.

While haze from nearby Sierra fires may linger some, we're looking at another pleasant fall day around the capital city heading into Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Events locally include a ribbon cutting and outdoor moving showing at the new Schulz Ranch Park, workshops, a women's safety meeting, a pumpkin patch for kids at Carson Mall, plus art showings and public talks. After hours it will be toasts, cheers and business networking all around at the Dayton Taphouse. Enjoy the day.

The BAC is hosting the 2019-2020 Celtic Music Series for its sixth season. Shows will begin October 19, 2019 and will continue until May 16, 2020.

Events lined around the capital city area include art workshops and showings, a "scary makeup" class in time for Halloween at the Carson Nugget, a luncheon with Congressman Mark Amodei hosted by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, family story time at the Carson City Library, a women's safety meeting, Salsa dancing and more. The Rose Buds Dance Band presents the Masquerade Ball at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 12. Get ready to have a great time with a live 18-piece band. Masks and costumes are optional but if you don’t wear one you may not win the costume contest!

Forty years ago, Carson City’s art and culture community experienced a massive boost when the Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery opened its doors.

The funding and building of this volunteer run gallery was spearheaded by local Nevada artists and donated to Carson City as part of the Brewery Arts Center Campus in 1979. Today NAA enjoys a membership of over 150 member artists, many of whom volunteer to host at and run Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery that has continually contributed to the arts and culture of the Carson City community throughout the past 40 years.
