Editor’s Note: Patt Quinn-Davis is adviser for the Carneta yearbook. She wrote this letter to CHS staff members to share the challenges she and her student staff faced in finishing this year’s carneta. Quinn-Davis also teaches Honors American Literature and English IV.

In the spirit of our summer mural wall, the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City has assembled a “Thank you” wall facing King Street and invites the community to come by with a Sharpie or paints and write a message to anyone who has helped during this time.

Carson High School's Future Business Leaders of America claim five State Championships as well as 40 top 10 awards in spite of pandemic. CHS FBLA students just finished competing in the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference. Originally, the event was scheduled to be held in Reno, but had to be held digitally due to Covid-19.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Carson High School’s graduation ceremony plan for the Class of 2020.

Carson High School will hold a drive-through ceremony Saturday, June 6, with varying times throughout the day where graduating seniors and their families will stay in their single vehicle until it's time for the graduate to exit their car, have their name announced on the loudspeaker as they walk across a stage erected on the northwest lawn (near the blue and white concrete ‘CHS’ sign), collect their diploma, have their picture taken, return to their vehicle and then proceed to the exit.

Trousers came into being when it was discovered, before Christ, that hand-to-hand combat was most unpleasant while wearing a robe, not to mention the discomfort endured while riding a horse while wearing a robe.

Is this pandemic over with yet? Nope! Not to beat a dead horse, but what is everyone doing with all this time off? For some, time off would be a fantastic development in their busy lives, and for others, time off would be an awful development because they are not able to pay their bills if they cannot go to work.

The point here is clear: Those who need time off cannot have it, and those who have time off do not want it. This is where hope, attitude, and contentment come into play. It is time for a laugh.

It took just one call from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services and Carson City Department of Health and Human Services to Tod Colegrove, PhD, MSLIS, director of the Carson City Library, and the wheels were set in motion.

Staying at home alone gives one time to pause and ponder. Today I'm evoking the war in Vietnam. This was an American booboo that was partly my fault. I was in college, 1966, majoring in pizza and beer, when I received a lottery number in the mail.

The Carson City Library will host a community read of My First Summer in the Sierra by John Muir for Capital City Reads, Carson City Library’s annual city-wide book club.

Capital City Reads takes place every April as a celebration of National Library Week, bringing people together through reading and discussion.

This year’s program starts with National Library Week on April 19 and will run through May 16.

CARSON CITY — In today’s new coronavirus, COVID-19, world of home-based work and child education, many are turning to online resources to keep diverse age groups engaged.

One of the most extensive sources of online materials is based right here at the Carson City Library, offering a collection of online resources from audiobooks to adult learning and picture books to magazines.

Well the kids are home thanks to COVID-19, and after approximately four hours the novelty of not being at school is sure to wear off and they’ll expect you to provide them with entertainment after they've done their online school learning assignments. So before you start tearing your hair out, here are 10 ways to keep your kids entertained during quarantine!

Ronald Bratsch, a Carson City Veteran, Security Manager and longtime fiscal conservative is announcing his candidacy for Carson City Supervisor Ward 4.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.

Carson City Library Director Dr. Tod Colegrove is the new president-elect of the Nevada Library Association (NLA), voted in at the turn of the year and assuming his new role as president in 2021.

Local author, Janice Oberding, will be the featured speaker for the March Nevada in Small Bites brown bag lunch. Aside from those who were incarcerated there, she is one of only a few people who have spent an entire night at Alcatraz.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.

Heading into the weekend, there’s an abundance of activities around the capital city region over the next three days. The Brewery Arts Center hosts a female version of "The Odd Couple." Carson City's Greenhouse Project is hosting a lunch and dinner fundraiser toward a healthier State Capitol. Dale Poune will perform at Bella Vita Bistro, plus comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, an open house at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, a Latin-themed concert at the community center and more. Kwashiorkor, affenpinscher, hsaing-waing, whippoorwill — these are only a few of the many challenging words participants in the 2020 Scripps National Spelling Bee could potentially be presented with and have to spell correctly in order to advance their hopes of becoming the 2020 National Champion.

It is one thing to study history; it is another witness it. Visitors to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City this Tuesday, Feb. 4, will find themselves in history’s front row as the museum celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint. Just as it did 150 years earlier to the day, the Mint’s Coin Press No. 1 will be pressing silver coins, complete with the famous “CC” mint mark.

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Douglas County has multiple priority projects on the books right now, including education innovation, distinctive downtowns, becoming an aviation destinations and more, but one in particular has it’s roots set firmly in the Carson valley’s history of agriculture, and that is "Agrihoods."

Celebrating its 13th year, the 2020 Nevada Farms Conference returns to its roots in Fallon on Feb. 20-22. The popular conference will be held at the Fallon Convention Center and Western Nevada College Fallon campus. It will include pre-conference workshops and farm tours on Thursday, followed by a two-day conference.

Nevada Author, Sandie La Nae, and Nevada Historian, Arline La Ferry, will be selling their newest book "Nevada's Oldest Hotel Gold Hill Hotel" at the Gold Hill Hotel on Saturday Feb. 22, 2020. From 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., books can be purchased and autographed by Sandie and Arline.

The first significant winter storm of 2020 will be blowing into the region Thursday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, heavy snow in the Sierra and 1-2 inches of snow possible in the lower valleys. Events lined up include a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, art showings, the kickoff of an After school Art 2020 program at the BAC, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library and more.

Enjoy the sunny weather and a brief calm Wednesday morning through early evening before gusty winds blow into the region overnight, bringing rain and snow to the valleys and heavy snow to the Sierra by Thursday. Midweek events around town include the New Year's Show featured by the Nevada Artists Association, a women's Seeking Safety workshop, the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at Carson City Library and more.
