On July 25, a woman visiting South Lake Tahoe reported a robbery and attempted sexual assault in a laundry room at Lakeland Village on Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

Over the past year, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department has received at least three such reports and believe they may be related due to similarities in the subject's description and method of operation, said Lt. Brian Williams.

I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Living in the dusty, dry high desert means that we escape cancerous car rot. Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

Sunday is the last chance for celebrity sightings at Edgewood Golf Resort in at south shore Lake Tahoe as the American Century Celebrity Championship tournament comes to a close. Learn about the legacy of Douglas County’s Dangberg family from the rancher’s grandson, author Steve Archard. Locals enjoy a special price on the Virginia and Truckee steam train, or the McKeen Motor car at the Nevada Railroad Museum.

SUNDAY:

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

SATURDAY:

There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

Happy Fathers’ Day Carson City. The Reno Rodeo is a great way to spend the day with your progeny. The Pow Wow continues at the Stewart Indian School, and Epic Rides is still downtown. Enjoy an afternoon at the golf course: a free family golf clinic is at Eagle Valley. Head to Heritage Park in Gardnerville for a car show celebrating the Great Race.

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. It's Friday, Carson City. Epic Rides descends on our valley, and I must say, it is one epic event. Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

FRIDAY:

The weekend winds down Sunday, but not with a whimper. The Fair has one more day of fun to offer. Take to the track with Carson City BMX at the Livermore Sports Complex. Relax in the shade of the Governor’s Mansion: the Carson City Symphony’s “Pops Party” concert is free to attend and a perfect way to spend the afternoon. Read on for even more happenings.

Carson City BMX (CCBMX) and USABMX has joined forces with the US Olympic Committee and USA Cycling to offer a FREE day of BMX racing at Carson City BMX in celebration of Olympic Day. CCBMX in conjunction with other BMX tracks are promoting Olympic Day. The goal of Olympic Day is to promote Olympic values and participating in sports across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.

Bike Month is only a third of the way through, but Bike Week in Carson City is coming to a close. For those taking their bike to work today, Comma Coffee and LA Bakery are offering a cup of joe on your way. Pedal your way to the Max Casino for the Grand Opening of the Black Bear Diner; you’re going to need your strength to get through this day full of fun stuff to do. The Nevada State Fair is in full swing and a street dance at the Pavilion starts at 6 p.m.

Hold onto your hats, Carson City, summer has arrived with a bang. Bikes, brews, bulls and broncs are just a few of the things you’ll find on this event summary. Whether you are looking for adult fun, family fun, art, music, shopping, or something outdoorsy, look no further: Carson City and her neighboring valleys are packed full of fun.

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

Midnight Madness has descended upon the valley, bringing with it a 72 hour softball tournament at Centennial Park. Don’t be surprised to see more cyclists on the road: an unofficial pre-ride for Epic Rides is this weekend. Head to the Nevada State Railroad Museum to see the Glenbrook all steamed up.
