Noting that demonstrations in the capital city have remained, for the most part, peaceful since March, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said public safety remains the first and foremost priority as emotions over the presidential election continue to run high.

To say 2020 was a crazy and eventful year would be an understatement. I think just about everyone can agree on that. But in the midst of a pandemic, a summer of protests, and an election year that shattered records, (pick a category, any catagory) it seems nevadans also found alot to disagree on. It was easy to see if one attended any of these protests.

An outside investigator found no policy violations but room for improved communication after reviewing events surrounding a rural Nevada library’s draft diversity statement that drew the county sheriff’s ire and sparked protests and national media attention.

President Donald Trump predicted that Nevada’s battered tourism industry would “come roaring back” under his leadership, warning that the lights of Las Vegas and Reno would be extinguished under a Joe Biden presidency and that Carson City, where he rallied supporters Sunday evening, would turn into a ghost town.

Two Carson City women and a South Lake Tahoe man were arrested and booked Saturday for misdemeanor suspicion of obstructing and being a pedestrian in the roadway during a Black Lives Matter demonstration near the capitol building.

Three people were arrested Saturday during a Black Lives Matter march at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The demonstrators were arrested following an issue with protesters walking in the bike lane.

The chair of the Douglas County Commission wanted to cut library funding after the director showed support for Black Lives Matter, according to new emails obtained by News 4-FOX 11.

Through a public records request, we uncovered new details on the Douglas County library debacle, which began in July when Douglas County library director Amy Dodson supported adopting a diversity statement and backing Black Lives Matter.

On Tuesday, the Douglas County Library Board of Trustees authorized a $30,000 investigation into Library Director Amy Dodson following a meeting agenda item in which Dodson proposed the Board formally support Black Lives Matter (BLM).

Since the agenda was issued, Douglas County has appeared in national headlines regarding the ire of Sheriff Dan Coverley over the proposed statement of support. A subsequent “Black Lives Matter” protest and “Blue Lives Matter” counter-protest resulted in more national attention and as many as three police incident reports, to include alleged assaults that took place during the rally. No arrests have been made.

According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, an accidental misfire of a rifle occurred today at around 5 p.m. in front of the Nevada State Legislature in Carson City following a Black Lives Matter rally.

The Douglas County Library Board of Trustees voted 3-2 Tuesday to approve an investigation into the library’s director Amy Dodson and the staff of the library regarding their proposed support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

On July 22, the Douglas County Public Library Board of Trustees issued an agenda for their July 28th meeting which included a discussion item on a proposed addition to their Diversity Statement.

The Black Lives Matter protest in Douglas County made national headlines after there were several videos filmed of verbal threats, racist taunts, and in at least one case a physical assault.

MINDEN — The planned Black Lives Matter protest and counter protest began at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center located at 1038 Buckeye Road in Minden at 9 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office estimates the combined size of the groups was between 750 and 1,000 protestors.

A group of about thirty Black Lives Matter protesters from Gardnerville, Carson City and Lake Tahoe took to the streets of Douglas County today, where they were met with hundreds of heavily armed counter-protesters, some of whom were physically and verbally assaulting the mostly-teenaged protesters.

UPDATE 6:23PM: On July 28, 2020 the Douglas County Library Director Amy Dodson and Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley met to discuss the Douglas County Public Library’s proposed statement of diversity. The library board was scheduled to discuss the statement at a public meeting scheduled for July 28, 2020. Sheriff Coverley submitted a written letter for public comment in opposition of the statement.

Multiple groups were in front of the legislature Saturday, with the regular every-Saturday Black Lives Matter protest along with the counter “All lives matter” protesters, but this week a new group showed up to have their voices heard in the form of education advocates.

Patricia Ackerman, Democratic candidate for Nevada Congressional District 2, last Friday stated her vehement opposition to news that President Donald Trump plans to nominate William Perry Pendley to be the Bureau of Land Management Director.

Black Lives Matter protesters took to the Legislature building in Carson City Saturday afternoon to protest police brutality.

As a part of their demonstrations they enacted a “lie-in” chanting “I can’t breathe,” the last words said by George Floyd, a black man killed by police in Minnesota.

Carson City Sheriff’s Officer deputies and Sheriff Ken Furlong blocked the street from motorists during the lie-in.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak made an appearance at the Carson City Black Lives Matter protest on Friday afternoon to speak with protesters and show his support for the cause.
