Activities around town include a yoga class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a midweek meditation series offered at Carson City Yoga, a firearms course, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women, a Carson Valley Trails Association celebration more.

Carson Valley Trails Association Annual Meeting & Member Celebration held March 4

The Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) will host the organization’s annual meeting and member celebration on Wednesday, March 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The evening will feature trails information and updates, complimentary refreshments, raffle prizes, and a no-host bar. The event is free and open to the public.

Carson City student picked as Society for Range Management delegate at upcoming forum

Carson High School Senior Cade Crookshanks, 17, has been selected by the Nevada Section of the Society for Range Management to participate in the High School Youth Forum, a SRM sponsored youth activity held jointly during the 73 Annual SRM meeting. The meeting will be held in Denver, Colo., Feb. 16-20, 2020.

Carson City Chamber Honors 2019's The Best of The Best

Understanding the Impact of 'Rule of Law' on Nevada Businesses

Carson City attorney, Joel W. Locke, a partner at Allison MacKenzie Law Firm pens a short series on “The Rule of Law” to help educate Nevada businesses on its impact.

Locke recently attended the State Bar of Nevada Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL. The three-day event was held at the Drake Hotel on July 12-14, 2018. The meeting’s theme was “The Rule of Law” and focused on the discussion of how the legal profession has helped shape the rule in our country’s history, and its role in the future.

Nevada Builders Alliance installs new board, hosts annual meeting

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada Builders Alliance, the state-wide association representing more than 700 member companies in all facets of construction, is hosting its annual dinner at The Grove in Reno Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. The Alliance will host its annual meeting in Las Vegas at Sierra Gold at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Boy Scouts of America honors Northern Nevada leader Jim Rogers with Silver Buffalo award

The American Buffalo did not roam in Northern Nevada more than a century ago as the West was settled, but Nevada does lay claim to its own Silver Buffalo in 2016. That “Silver Buffalo” is Jim Rogers and the national honor was bestowed upon this Nevadan by the Boy Scouts of America at its 2016 National Annual Meeting held in San Diego.

Rogers was honored during the recent BSA National Convention in San Diego. Today, there are more than 800,000 adult volunteers in BSA, and Rogers has been an active volunteer leader for over 35 years.

UNR's Nevada Seismological Lab earthquake forum to feature global and regional experts

International experts will join with local seismologists in a public forum this month to inform the region on the dangers and probabilities of devastating earthquakes, and how to recover economically as a region.

Contrary to the general public perception, the California-Nevada border region is at risk for large, magnitude 7-plus earthquakes striking the greater Reno-Tahoe region. In a magnitude 6 earthquake, according to FEMA estimates, the region could suffer billions of dollars in damage: $1.9 billion in the Reno/Sparks area and $590 million in the Stateline area.

Happy Sunday. There’s still plenty of weekend left. Craft fairs at Carson Lanes and the Carson Colony are sure to have something for that hard to buy for person on your list. Fight the chill with chili at the Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club’s Chili Cook-off at Yogurt Beach. Sing some holiday songs at the Holiday Karaoke Sing-along Party at the Carson City Library. Dayton lights up its tree tonight at ‘Our Park,’ so dress in your ugliest sweater and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies at their ‘Small Town Christmas’ celebration.
