Nevada unemployment website update successful, new feature offers option to reset password

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation announced a successful update of its unemployment insurance website. The agency also added and launched a performance feature on Saturday that affords filers another option to reset their online password 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Initial unemployment claims in Nevada decline for week ending April 11; claims already at historic level

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 58,641 regular initial claims for the week ending April 11, down 20,644 claims, or 26 percent compared to last week’s total of 79,285.

Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance Total 79,285; Continued Claims Reach All-Time High

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance totaled 79,285 regular initial claims for the week ending March 4, up 7,343 claims, or 10.2 percent compared to last week’s total of 71,942.

This is the second highest weekly total in state history. Through week ending April 4, there have been 271,533 initial claims filed in 2020, this is 28,417 more than the state saw in the last two years combined.

Standoff in Stagecoach with Lyon County Sheriff's deputies ends, man in custody

UPDATE 4:02PM: The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has identified the man involved in a standoff that happened Tuesday morning. George “Vic” Sheppard was taken into custody at around noon and faces a charge of domestic battery. A female victim was treated for minor injuries.

Adulting 101: Carson City JAG program teaches career skills, communication and self-advocacy

Jobs for America’s Graduates, also known as JAG, is a program across the country that teaches life skills to high school students, so that they can be prepared for the work force after graduation. However, Carson City’s own Pioneer High School’s JAG instructor, Chyanne Corley, has taken that idea farther. She teaches her students not only to be prepared for the work force, but to become confident, well rounded adults.
