The greatest day of the year is close at hand: Nevada Day. The day in which the capitol of Nevada, Carson City, practically shuts down to celebrate our statehood, which took place on October 31, 1864.

While the majority of the United States don’t celebrate their Statehood, those that do participate don’t have quite the same gusto for the celebration that Carson City does.

A 33-year-old Reno man faces 11 charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding an officer and trafficking a controlled substance after an early Friday morning pursuit that began on the freeway, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 38-year-old transient was arrested Thursday, 11:44 p.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street for felony suspicion of vehicle theft and other charges after a man was discovered inside a red Jeep Cherokee reported stolen, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A warm December day has me dreaming about gardening. My book My Garden Helper – What to do each month and How to do it, circa 1933, caught my eye. The first line reads “Gardening is easy. Western Nevada College has announced that it will graduate 515 students for the 2014-15 academic year. The 2015 commencement ceremony will take place on Monday, May 18, 11 a.m. at the Marv Teixieira Pavilion in Mills Park, in Carson City.
