Woman injured in crash after colliding with Carson City driver

A 19-year-old Stateline woman driving a Jeep Cherokee crossed the center line early Wednesday and crashed into a vehicle driven by a Carson City man, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The accident was reported at 8:49 a.m. near Juniper Lane about a third of a mile from Highway 50 on Kingsbury Grade. The woman was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Democratic legislators this year are again lining up bills that would outlaw texting while driving and, in some cases, ban hand-held phone use while driving.
They’re continuing efforts in the 2009 session from Sen. Shirley Breeden, D-Henderson, whose text-banning bill died in committee. She’s sponsoring a similar bill this year.

Accident tonight ties up Highway 50 in Carson City; Careflight lands at high school

A single-vehicle accident tonight in Carson City on Highway 50 has traffic tied up near China East restaurant.

The car accident, reported at 5:49 p.m., happened moments after a CareFlight helicopter had landed at Carson High School to pick up a patient who, in a separate incident, fell at their home near the Carson City Fire Station and experienced possible life-threatening injuries.

Nevada Highway Patrol makes 14 DUI arrests overnight

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports this morning that 14 alcohol-related arrests were made overnight, including two DUIs in Carson City.

In a 12-hour period between 7 p.m. Friday through 7 this morning, NHP troopers arrested the motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

Police chase leads to accident; Carson City patrol car hit in pursuit

A car chase tonight through north and west Carson City caused a two-vehicle accident at Mountain and Winnie streets with a deputy being injured after being rammed by the suspect's vehicle.

The chase involved a red Ford Ranger that wouldn't stop for a patrol officer who has apparently suffered injuries to his hands, knee and shoulder after the suspect reportedly rammed into the patrol car head-on, reports Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Fatal accident on Highway 50 near Dayton this morning

A 26-year-old Las Vegas woman died this morning in an accident on Occidental Circle, four miles east of Dayton, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The accident happened at around 9 a.m and involved two vehicles that collided, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. A preliminary crash investigation has revealed that a silver 2006 Dodge Neon was traveling west on the four-lane highway when the driver, 26-year-old Wendy Ann Geddie of Las Vegas, lost control of her vehicle.

NHP: 47 wrecks in six hours and growing

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers have been busy today responding to four dozen motor vehicle crashes on area roads and highways.

Some 47 accidents were reported between 6 a.m. and noon today throughout the Northern Nevada region, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

The accidents happened as a result of falling snow, slippery roadways and motorists traveling too fast for the roadway conditions, Allen said in a press statement. Multiple accidents reported as snow piles up along Carson City roads (UPDATED 8:32 PM)

Spin-outs, fender-benders and icy streets have kept Carson City law officers, fire and rescue and city road crews busy today as the first wave of a wet winter storm has arrived.

The most recent accident tonight appears to be the most serious. It was reported at 8:10 p.m. and involves three vehicles that were in an apparent head-on collision in the area of Dump Hill in Carson City. Fire and rescue crews, paramedics, the Nevada Highway Patrol and Carson City sheriff's deputies have responded.

Icy road conditions cause numerous accidents in Carson City

Motorists should take extra precaution tonight as rain and snow showers earlier today in Carson City have turned to ice with numerous accidents around town. As of 10 p.m. no major injuries were reported as a result of the accidents, according to dispatchers.

According to Carsonweather.com and the National Weather Service an advisory has been issued that warns of poor driving conditions and slick roads because of the freezing rain and snow.

Storm continues to make travel difficult through Northern Nevada and Sierra

With a winter storm warning in effect until 4 p.m. today followed by a blast of cold weather through Wednesday, conditions on Northern Nevada roads remain icy and will likely continue that way through the holiday travel period.

Carson City braces for fourth storm in series; NHP trooper injured in morning accident

A third punch of snow overnight in Carson City brought a few spinouts, minor accidents, downed power lines and traffic delays this morning. In one accident, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper sustained injuries after a car lost control and slid into his parked SUV.

Driver in fatal accident near Fallon arrested for felony DUI (Updated)

The driver of a truck that crossed a center turn lane, striking a car that killed a 19-year-old Fallon woman on Monday faces a felony charge in the woman's death, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports this morning.

Justin Speed, 21, of Fallon was arrested Wednesday and booked on charges of felony driving under the influence that caused death; felony failure to maintain a travel lane and speeding. He is being held on $251,344 bond and remains in the Churchill County jail, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Alcohol may have been a contributing factor to a head-on vehicle accident on Highway 50 early Monday morning that killed a 19-year-old woman, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports this morning.

NHP reports 17 vehicle accidents this morning including one fatal crash

Poor road conditions led to a rash of accidents throughout Northern Nevada early this morning, one involving the death of a 19-year-old Fallon woman on Highway 50.

The fatal accident was reported at 5:46 this morning in Churchill County on Highway 50 three miles west of Fallon, reports Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen.

The woman died after her Volvo station wagon was hit by a pickup that had been traveling in the westbound lane and crossed the center turn-lane into the eastbound lane, according to a preliminary crash investigation.

Black ice on the roads this morning

Black ice may have been the cause of a three-vehicle accident this morning at Highway 50 and Drako Way in Carson City.

Moderate damage to the vehicles was reported in the accident that happened at about 6:40 this morning. Police report icy roads in the area at the time of the wreck.

One person reported having injuries to their head, while another reported injuries to their fingers. Airbags did deploy, according to police at the scene.

Boy pulled from water at the Carson City Aquatic Facility

Carson City paramedics were called Wednesday to the Aquatic Facility on Roop Street after a child was pulled from the water and not breathing, authorities said.

Care Flight transported the 11-year-old boy from Carson-Tahoe Hospital to Renown Medical Center in Reno, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. The child was taken by ambulance from the aquatic center to the hospital.

At the time the child arrived at the hospital he had a pulse and was breathing on his own, Furlong said.

Gov. Gibbons returns to mansion, works on state budget

Nearly a month of being hospitalized after a Sept. 21 horse riding accident in which he broke his pelvis, Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons returned to the mansion in Carson City over the weekend. Gibbons will be receiving several weeks of outpatient therapy, according to staff.

Carson City man dies in motorcycle accident near Genoa

A Carson City man died Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding went off the side of the road and crashed about two miles east of Genoa, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Christian Joseph Coleman, 59, was driving east on State Route 206 (Genoa Lane) when, for unknown reasons, his motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway and crashed, said NHP Trooper Matt Kaplan. The accident happened at about 9:45 p.m.

Coleman was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson. He was transported to Carson Tahoe Hospital by Care Flight where he later died.

Stateline man identified in fatal motorcycle accident near Gardnerville

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Stateline man who died in a motorcycle accident south of Gardnerville on Sunday.

Timothy J. McArdle, 49, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident that involved the crash of the motorcycle and a pickup driven by a Gardnerville man.

A 49-year-old Stateline man died in a motorcycle accident on Sunday south of Gardnerville, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The accident, reported at 7:16 p.m., involved the collision of a pickup with the motorcycle, authorities said.

Preliminary crash investigation details indicate that a silver 2002 GMC Sonoma pickup driven by a 59-year-old Gardnerville man was traveling south in the left turn lane and was attempting to turn left, or east, onto Palomino Lane.

Care Flight responds to accident this morning near Fairview in Carson City

An accident about 7:45 this morning had traffic tied up along Fairview and 5th Street in Carson City. Care Flight transported one patient to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Traffic along Edmonds, Fairview and 5th Street was halted as Care Flight landed near the Nevada State Prison.
The vehicles involved in the accident received major damage, according to authorities at the scene.

Some flooding reported as Carson City hit with storm burst

Minor street flooding has been reported on the east side of Carson City this afternoon as a band of thunderstorms went through town.

A series of about three storm bursts went through town and have since tapered off. Road crews are now clearing debris from storm drains along Saliman Road and Fairview. About a half inch of rain fell during the course of the latest thunderstorm, according to www.carsonweather.com. Nearly one inch has fallen throughout the day.

Storey County authorities investigate fatality at USA Parkway

Storey County law enforcement officers are investigating an incident tonight in which a female motorist was found dead.

Details are sketchy, but the woman was found in a vehicle in the area of USA Parkway in Storey County, said Jerry Antinoro, Storey County assistant sheriff. It is not known at this time by law enforcement if it was a vehicle accident.

The woman was found past where the pavement ends, Antinoro said.

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons moves from intensive care ward

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, who was in a horse accident on Tuesday near Pyramid Lake, was moved today from the Intensive Care Ward of Renown Medical Center in Reno.
The governor's condition is improving but he is in a considerable amount of pain, according to a press statement. He underwent surgery on Wednesday for several fractures to the pelvis.

NHP identifies woman killed in motorcycle accident near Nevada state line after being hit by wrong-way driver (Updated)

A 49-year-old California woman died Thursday night south of the Nevada state line after being hit by a car traveling in the wrong direction on Highway 395, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Roberta A. Baragona of Landers, Calif. woman, who was traveling with three other motorcyclists, died at the scene of the accident, which happened between Cold Springs and Bordertown at 11:14 p.m., said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. The driver of the vehicle who hit the woman, an 85-year-old San Francisco man, was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons hospitalized after horse accident (updated)

The Reno-Gazette Journal, KTVN Channel 2 Reno and even CNN reports Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons was thrown from a horse on Tuesday afternoon north of Pyramid Lake and is hospitalized at Renown Medical Center in Reno. He is said to be resting and was alert when he spoke with staff.

Update 8:40 a.m.: We talked to the governor's office, and they said Gibbons is still at Renown Medical Center, and is listed in stable condition.
Update 1:30 p.m.: According to a press statement released by the governor's staff, Gibbons broke his pelvis in at least two places. He will have surgery today.
His surgeon says this type of injury is very common when someone is thrown from a horse. His doctors say his prognosis is very good and his injuries are non-life threatening and non-life altering.
Update 9:30 p.m.: Gov. Gibbons has undergone surgery and is recuperating in the hospital.  The Governor’s pelvis was broken in several places. The surgery lasted approximately two hours. The doctor who performed the surgery noted he expects the Governor to make a full recovery.

Yerington man dies in motorcycle crash

A Yerington man died on Monday after his motorcycle collided with a large truck on Highway 95A near Penrose Lane.

Michael R. Leonard, 46, died on the scene, nine miles north of Yerington, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The preliminary crash investigation details reflect that a 3-axle 1986 White dump truck was traveling west on Penrose Lane and was approaching the intersection of Highway 95A. The large truck was being driven by 28-year-old Douglas J. Scronce of Fallon. Leonard was traveling northbound on a red 1986 Kawasaki motorcycle, according to NHP.
