Original owners of 'The Basil' are back at the renowned Carson City restaurant after funding school in Thailand
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 12/20/2019 - 3:14pmCarson City's The Basil momentarily changed hands while undergoing a corporation change, but now, original owners Bob and Nan Watanar, who also serves as head chef, are back in the kitchen of the beloved Thai restaurant.
After spending thirty years creating delicious traditional Thai food on Carson Street, Bob and Nan wanted to pay forward their hard work and good fortune to those in need.
Bob and Nan set off for Bangkok, where they funded a school for abused children who were being looked after by Nuns. They helped create a commercial kitchen at the school, where the children are now learning how to run their own restaurants.

We’ve heard a million times that kids are sponges, absorbing all that they see and hear. That includes the good, the bad and the ugly. It makes sense that they want to imitate one of the good guys in a show or cartoon. To a child, a superhero is magical. A superhero is powerful! A superhero can help keep them safe.

“Kristin embodies every principle I want the D.A.’s office to reflect,” said Woodbury. “She’s honest. Her judgment is sensible and consistent. And she’s the hardest working person I’ve ever known.”
