More thunderstorms on the way Carson City region, northern Sierra front; Red Flag Warning issued
More thunderstorms are on the way for northern and western Nevada and the Carson City, Carson Valley region with the potential for stronger thunderstorms and associated lightning strikes Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a Red Flag Warning.
The National Weather Service in Reno issued the Red Flag Warning for thunderstorms and strong outflow winds, which is in effect from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Affected areas include the Northern Sierra Front including Carson City, Douglas, western Lyon counties as well as Southern Washoe County and the Greater Lake Tahoe area. Go here for the warning and the affected areas.
According to the weather service's Red Flag Warning, isolated thunderstorms will develop Monday morning and become scattered by afternoon. Thunderstorms will start dry and transition to hybrid wet and dry storms in the afternoon.
Gusts to 50 mph possible from any thunderstorms. Lightning can create new fire starts and may combine with strong outflow winds to cause a fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.
The weather service advises people to void outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires.
