The original story is as follows:
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office along with the Reno Police Department are investigating a potential connection between two recent burglary incidents in which two entire ATM machines were stolen from South Reno and Dayton.
According to Lyon County Sheriff's Office Detective Lieutenant Jerry Pattinson, the two local law enforcement agencies are looking into a concrete connection between the two offenses, and yesterday the FBI was on scene in Dayton.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office released this statement regarding the crime yesterday:
Sometime around 0200 hours of in the morning of December 26, 2019, one or more individuals stole a trailer containing a piece of construction equipment from the lot of a construction company in Lyon County (identity being withheld at this time). They drove the trailer to the Greater Nevada Credit Union in Dayton where they used the construction equipment to rip an ATM machine from the ground, placing it on the trailer. The suspect(s) then left the construction equipment behind and drove the trailer away containing the stolen ATM machine. The suspect vehicle is believed to have headed westbound on Highway 50.
It is undetermined how much money was in the ATM at the time of its theft. Additionally, a description of the vehicle involved in the theft is being withheld at this time.
The major crimes division of the Lyon County County Sheriff’s Office is currently working this case, along with assistance form the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and are actively trying to identify a suspect.

On Christmas Eve at around 4 a.m., a Wells Fargo ATM was stolen near Kietzke Lane and Neil Road in Reno. The machine was ripped from the ground, pried open, and the money looted from inside.
This came only days after a third ATM was burglarized from the Umpqua Bank in North Reno on Dec. 22, again at 4 a.m. However, the suspects were not able to pry that ATM open, and it's contents remained intact.
Lt. Pattinson said they are confident a connection between the crimes will be established shortly.
