Holiday Fire burning in Pine Nuts south of Gardnerville
UPDATE: 1:01PM: The Holiday Fire burning southeast of Gardnerville amidst burn scars of previous fires in the Preacher Mine area is now about 55 acres in size and moving slowly through grass, pinion and juniper, Douglas County has said in a press release Friday.
Access is difficult and resource availability is a challenge, the county said.
Hand crews are on order, while one helicopter from the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) will be making water bucket drops on the fire.
The fire appears to be on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land, the county said, making the incident jurisdiction of the BLM fire management team.
Two overhead personnel from Douglas County's East Fork Fire Protection District are currently assigned to the fire, the county said.
Extinguishing the fire could take up to three days, the county said, because of access and resource challenges, the county said.
No containment is given yet on the blaze, the cause of which remains unknown and under BLM investigation, the county said.

A wildfire is currently burning in the Pine Nut area of Buffalo Canyon between Ray May Way and Leviathan Mine Road just south of Gardnerville, Douglas County tweeted last night at 9:15 p.m.
Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center started a working incident on the fire at 9:51 p.m. Thursday, SFIDC Public Information Officer Juan Zepeda said.
The Holiday Fire is currently burning between 40-50 acres in an old scar area of the Preacher Fire, Zepeda said, so the flames are surrounded by blackened terrain with low spread potential.
Two hand crews and a helicopter are currently working the blaze, Zepeda said, while two brush engines are also on order.
There is no containment yet, Zepeda said, but no structures are threatened and there have been no reported injuries.
Cause of the fire is unknown at this time, he said.
