Escape the cold, burn some rubber indoors at Carson Raceway
Carson City’s only indoor go-cart track, Carson Raceway offers a high-speed rush for children and adults alike.
The facility has been open for six months now, and customers seem to really enjoy the experience.
“I think the raceway is just one more thing that kids and adults can do in Carson,” said Carson Raceway owner, Jamy Keshmiri. Keshmeri also owns the building and Ben’s Liquor next door.
The Italian made carts can break 40 miles per hour (mph) for adult drivers, and are governed to 20-25 mph for kids races. They have a modern, sleek look to them and are electric-powered.
The carts have built-in sensors to calculate lap times and placement. When the race is over, the participants get a printout of the lap times and results.
“My father gifted the race to us as a Christmas present,” said Chris White of Carson City after finishing a race with his family. “It was a blast.”
Carson Raceway has an on-site mechanic, who performs repairs and maintenance on the carts. He also holds the fastest lap record on the track, according to co-manager, Logan Bevins.
Bevins said that safety is a priority at Carson Raceway. Drivers must wear a closed-face helmet and a padded neck brace while racing.
These items are provided, or drivers can bring their own closed-face helmets if they have them.
Rules and safety are explained in a two-minute safety video before racing as well.
Drivers age 12 years and up, and more than 55 inches tall are considered in the adult racing category. Children must be over eight years of age and 55 inches tall for kids races.
Adults can also participate in kids races for a race with little less speed, or to join in with the kids.
“I like to see the adults, they get really competitive,” said Blevins. “They like to talk big and it’s fun to see how they actually do.”
The cost of a 16-lap race for one adult is $20. Each additional person in the group is $15.
Special rates and accommodations can be made for groups and parties with a three-day notice.
Carson Raceway is currently running a 20-lap race special on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Bevins said Carson Raceway hosts a lot of birthday parties, company celebrations, families, dates and groups of friends before a night out.
Carson Raceway has an arcade, vending machines for soda and snacks, as well as a separate room that can be used by groups or parties at no additional charge.
A monthly rate is available for the most avid racers, which includes five 16-lap races and each additional race during that monthly period is half price.
Carson Raceway is open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and on Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The indoor go-cart track is located at 3777 N. Carson Street.
