Woman arrested Wednesday after stabbing family member last Saturday

A Carson City woman was arrested in the 3700 block of Tuolumne Street on the charges of felony battery with a deadly weapon, felony assault with a deadly weapon, and felony burglary.

On Saturday morning, unites were dispatched to the area in regards to a stabbing that had just occurred. While on route, dispatch advised that a woman reported her brother-in-law’s wife, Stephanie Ross, attacked her with a knife. The woman said she had been stabbed in the hand and that she barricaded herself in the bedroom.

Dispatch also advised Ross had left the scene in a white van, possibly en-route to the Panamint drive area.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim who had a towel covering her left hand. Paramedics then arrived to assess her injuries. Deputies noted a deep gash, cut mark on the top of her left pinky finger.

Deputies also made contact with the brother-in-law.

He said he and his wife, Ross, were going through a divorce and do not live together. He said he was making breakfast when he looked out the window and observed a white van pull into the driveway. He said he recognized the driver as Ross.

He said he went outside to go see what she needed, and he said she got out of the vehicle screaming and yelling. He said she was holding a large knife and that she started swinging it at him. He said he kept his distance, and that Ross was yelling at him accusing him of stealing her money and/or wallet.

He then said Ross went around him and walked into the house, and he then heard yelling between her and his sister-in-law. He said when he re-entered the residence, Ross and the sister were in the kitchen, and that Ross turned around and started back towards him with the knife still in her and. He said he grabbed her arm and then “bear hugged her,” took her to the ground and removed the knife from her hand.

He showed them the knife, which appeared to be a large hunting knife approximately 13” in length, with a silver blade and a gold handle. Deputies took possession of the weapon.

The sister-in-law told a similar story. She also said that in the kitchen, Ross entered the kitchen and walked quickly towards her. She said Ross’s arm and hand were raised and she was holding the knife above her head in an aggressive manner. She said that Ross swung the knife at her, and the sister-in-law raised her left arm in an attempt to deflect the stab and in the process, the knife cut the top of her left pinky finger.

Deputies attempted to locate Ross in several locations without success.

Four days later on Dec. 19 at around 1:00, deputies learned Ross was at an elementary school, and responded to that location where they took her into custody and was transported to the jail.

Bail: $70,000

—A 35-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 800 block of W. Fourth Street early Wednesday morning on the charge of domestic battery first offense.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence on the report of a domestic battery. The man told deputies his wife was angry with him when he got home because he was up late and had been drinking. He said she began screaming so loudly, he didn’t want their children to wake up, so he covered her mouth. He said when he did this, she bit him.

Deputies noted a very small laceration indicative of a bite mark on the man’s left hand near the pinky.

The wife said she did yell at him when he got home, but he slapped her, making partial contact with her face, grabbed her by the hair, and she fell to the ground. She said while she was on the ground, the man covered her mouth and she bit his hand defensively to get him off of her.

Deputies spoke with the man again, who said he didn’t hit her, but motioned that he did and told deputies he slapped her. Then he said he didn’t slap her, he just swung his arm to get her away from him when she was yelling. He said he never grabbed her hair, and she never fell down, but then he said he grabbed her to cover her mouth, and she fell down from that action.

He said his wife never struck or tried to strike him, other than to bite him when she was on the ground.

He was taken into custody and booked without incidence.
