Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest four in purse robbery involving 99-year-old victim
Several arrests have been made in connection with a 99-year-old woman who was robbed earlier this month of her purse and several hundred dollars in cash, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Thursday.
On Dec. 4 the sheriff’s office responded to the report of a robbery in the 600 block of East Spear Street, near downtown Carson City. At the scene, the 99-year-old elderly victim reported that a female had confronted her in her garage and forcefully took her purse.
The victim reported approximately $300 to $500 cash was in the purse, along with personal belongings. She was not harmed in the robbery.
On Dec. 16, detectives contacted three females at their home on Carson Meadows Drive regarding reports of suspected stolen property. All three females were taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Carson City Jail. During the booking process of Bexy Mora, detention deputies located a Nevada driver’s license bearing the name of the 99-year-old victim, said Furlong.
On Thursday, following investigative activities, warrants were issued for two of the three females already in custody, as well as Joanna Grajeda, who is believed to have actually committed the offense against the victim, said Furlong.
Arrested are:
— Victoria Julia Mora, born 3/12/77 (currently on parole for Burglary Offenses)
— Gloria Grajeda, born 4/18/92 (currently on Alternative Sentencing for Battery)
— Joanna Krystal Grajeda, born 4/7/93 (currently on Alt. Sentencing for Battery)
— Bexy Barbara Mora, born 9/21/84
Victoria and Bexy are a female married couple. Detectives were able to determine that Victoria Mora, Bexy Mora, and Joanna Grajeda all allegedly targeted the victim as she left a local casino on the afternoon of Dec. 4.
The three allegedly followed the victim to her home, where Joanna Grajeda confronted her, took her purse, then fled the area. All three females were charged with conspiracy to commit a robbery against a person over the age of 60, a category B Felony, and robbery against a person over the age of 60, a category B Felony. Bail has been set at $40,000 each.
While not charged with the robbery offense, Gloria Grajeda remains in custody for violation of Alternate Sentencing conditions and suspicion of possession of stolen property. Investigation activity is continuing regarding other suspected stolen property recovered from area residential burglaries and associated with the individuals listed above, said Furlong.
