Woman jailed on felony fugitive and providing false information charges
A 28-year-old South Dakota woman was arrested early Wednesday morning at North Plaza and east Washington streets in Carson City. Christina Kimberly Ashton faces felony charges of being a fugitive from justice and giving false information to avoid prosecution.
Officers responded to a casino in the 500 block of North Carson Street at 5:09 a.m. attempting to locate a vehicle in which the driver had a warrant. Officers stopped a white Volkswagen Jetta where the woman said she did not have a driver's license and advised she had no proof of insurance, the arrest report states.
The deputy asked the woman for her name and she said provided a different name and date of birth. Officers checked through dispatch which advised she was clear of any wants and warrants and her driver's license was suspended, the arrest report states.
As officers were issuing a citation the woman removed a red wallet from her purse, opened it and there was an identification card inside. The officer asked for the identification and a different name on it with a birth date. A check through dispatch advised Ashton had a confirmed felony warrant out of South Dakota for possession of a controlled substance and unauthorized ingestion of controlled substances with a no bail hold.
Ashton was arrested on the felony charges, a misdemeanor charge of having no proof of insurance and taken into custody. A bail amount of $10,000 was applied for the local charge of providing false information and an additional $767 local bail amount was applied for not having proof of insurance.
