Cancer Recovery: Friends of Willow Bill host fundraiser Sunday at Carson City's A to Zen
Observant travelers in Northern Nevada are reporting numerous reindeer sightings along the 85 mile stretch of US 395 between Bordertown, on the north, and Lake Topaz, on the south.
The Willow Reindeer herd now has 3,000 individually crafted works of art. Each reindeer has been signed by the local elementary students that have created it over the past 22 years. With an average of 20 students per class, there have been over 60,000 local children involved in the massive local art project.
Beloved local artist Willow Bill has created the project and continues to teach and inspire our children, even as he has been battling Stage 4 cancer this autumn. After enduring numerous rounds of chemotherapy, Bill has recently undergone surgery in his battle for health. Bill has been hard at work throughout, and the herd is fully distributed throughout Northern Nevada.
Local citizens have seen the great work that Bill has accomplished over the years, and are now stepping up to help him as he recuperates from his recent cancer surgery. A local fundraiser has been scheduled in order to help Bill with his post-operative recovery.
People have been eager to help, and the Willow Bill Fundraiser promises to be a highlight of the holiday season, complete with family-friendly activities, esteemed local entertainment, an old-fashioned cakewalk, awesome raffle prizes, food and refreshments, and hand-crafted (or decorate-your-own) Christmas ornaments for sale.
The entertainment line-up is complete, and will feature fiddler Lolli Jones with pianist Nancy Barker, and longtime local favorite singer/guitarist Craig Fletcher with Rocky Tatarelli on saxophone. Other local musicians and luminaries are expected to be in attendance.
The event will take place at A to Zen, 1803 N. Carson St. in Carson City, on Sunday, December 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. A to Zen is the perfect venue to host an event such as this according to organizer Melisa Maxey.
Local talent and emcee “Brother Dan” Palmer says, “the room will be filled with love.” We encourage people to attend the event even if you don’t know Willow Bill. The event promises to be a fun and memorable event, benefitting a beloved local artist.
