Carson City crime log: Arrests made for minor in possession, DUI, probation violations
Two 21-year-old men and a 19-year-old were arrested early Saturday, 2:10 a.m. in the area of Viking and Sherman streets and face various misdemeanor charges, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, a deputy patrolling the area observed a gray Chevrolet 2 door sedan traveling southbound on Viking Street, approaching Sherman Lane. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign and drove into the path of the deputy, who had to brake to avoid a collision.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver and his passengers. The deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. The deputy asked if they had been drinking, they all refused to answer. The deputy conducted a records check on all three. The two 21-year-old men were on supervision with the Department of Alternative Sentencing and had “no alcohol” and “no drugs” as part of the conditions of their probation.
All three were removed from the vehicle. A K9 did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive to a drug odor. The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle submitted to field sobriety tests and admitted he had been drinking during further questioning.
He smelled of alcohol but did not show impairment for DUI and provided a breath sample of .055. He also did not provide the officer with valid insurance for the vehicle. The Department of Alternative Sentencing was advised and requested he be arrested for violation of conditions.
The other 21-year-old in the vehicle also smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking earlier in the evening. He submitted to a preliminary breath test with a .106 result. DAS also advised he be arrested for violation of conditions.
During a search of the vehicle the deputy located a jar of marijuana inside on the passenger floorboard area where the 19-year-old was sitting. He gave a preliminary breath temple of .07. He was arrested for possession of marijuana by a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor consuming alcohol. Bail: $2,111. Bail for the 21-year-old driver: $1,844. Bail for the 21-year-old passenger: $1,000.
