Carson Tahoe Health donates $5,000 to Salvation Army Turkey Drop to help decrease Turkey shortage
On Friday, Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) made a gift of $5,000 to the Salvation Army to support the purchase of turkeys for their holiday meal program at the Salvation Army’s Turkey Drop at Max Casino in Carson City.
Dee Tison, a nurse leader at Carson Tahoe, took action after learning that the Salvation Army was 1,000 turkeys short for their annual turkey drop. She asked CTH leadership to consider providing turkeys, and even offered to drive around and pick them up herself.
Carson Tahoe leadership wanted to take part and help where they could, so they decided on a $5,000 gift, with hopes that it could provide around 200 turkeys to local families.
“We made it happen,” said Tison. “Our community showed up for us when we needed it, and we are very grateful to be able to help our neighbors have a nice meal this holiday season.”
Amy Hyne-Sutherland, Director of Community Partnerships and Legacy Giving at CTH, said, “Our mission is to enhance the health and well-being of the communities we serve. The best way for us to live our mission is to provide the best healthcare we can, and then work with our community partners to support the important work they do. There are so many facets to health and well-being, and access to wholesome food is critical. We are very grateful for the work the Salvation Army, their generous staff, and dedicated volunteers do in the community.”
The community can still help; if you would like to donate to the Turkey Drop, send your gift to 911 E. 2nd St. Carson City, NV. 89701 or drop by the Salvation Army office at the same address. Gift donations online can be made at CarsonTurkeyDrop.org.
